The IPL 2023 Final between Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Gujarat Titans (GT) was a start-stop due to persistent rain. While the final showdown was already deferred by a day, the second innings was also delayed as rain and a wet outfield halted the game for over an hour. Nevertheless, the game got going with revised playing conditions and CSK’s opening pair of Ruturaj Gaikwad and Devon Conway did exceptionally well to match the required rate.
The pair put on 52 runs in the first four overs (powerplay overs after revised conditions) and gave GT a headache. However, the Hardik Pandya-led team soon found their hero in Noor Ahmad who sent back both CSK openers in the same over. While Ahmed got Gaikwad caught on the third delivery of his second over, the Afghan spinner removed Conway on the last ball of his over to bring GT back in the game.
The GT spinner kept things tight in the next over he bowled as well. Ahmad gave away only five runs in his third over and eventually ended with a bowling figure of 3-0-17-2.
With the Afghanistan youngster turning the game on its head with his sensational bowling, fans sang words of praise for Ahmad. Twitter was filled with tweets praising the 18-year-old from Afghanistan. While some called it the best bowling spell in an IPL Final, some credited IPL for unearthing such talents.
