Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) wicketkeeper Anuj Rawat pulled off a brilliant run out during his team’s game against Rajasthan Royals (RR) on Sunday. The young wicketkeeper showed great presence of mind to catch R Ashwin a few inches short of his popping crease. Rawat’s way of pulling off the dismissal was a bit similar to the famous MS Dhoni’s no-look runout of Ross Taylor where the formed India captain had dislodged the bails without even looking at the stumps.

As Shimron Hetmyer played a shot against Karn Sharma towards the sweeper cover and tried to sneak in a double so that he could be on the strike to face the next ball, the RR batter put his partner Ashwin in trouble. Ashwin who is a tad slow between the wickets found it hard to make it in time. But it was more of Rawat’s game awareness that yielded RCB a wicket.

The RCB wicketkeeper seeing there was no one at the non-striker’s end to collect the throw from Mohammed Siraj, ran quickly and took his wicketkeeping gloves off. Rawat then cheekily directed the ball onto the stumps to catch Ashwin a few inches short of his crease.

While this runout from Anuj Rawat caught the attention of many, it was icing on the cake from the RCB lad. Earlier, while batting, Rawat played a quick cameo (29* off 11) at the fag end of the innings to propel RCB to an above-par total. The young batter hit two sixes and a boundary on the last three balls of the RCB innings.

This knock from Rawat helped RCB finish with a few more runs than they had anticipated. His teammate Michael Bracewell who was at the other end, heaped praise on Rawat for his cameo. “It was a difficult wicket to get going. The way he batted, he gave us a lot of momentum going into the second innings,” said Bracewell. Notably, RCB went on to win the match by 112 runs as RR were bundled out for a mere 59.
