Australia batter Marnus Labuschagne did something unusual thing on the field on the Day 1 of the third Test against South Africa in Sydney on Wednesday, January 4. He asked for a cigarette lighter to repair his helmet.

At some point, he asked from thre dressing room the lighter and when it was brought in, Labuschagne fixed the helmet which must have bothered him before. He seemingly removed the loose fragments that were coming into his eye-line. His gesture left the teammates and commentators confused at first. The commentators were laughing at Labuschagne’s gesture. And after fixing his helmet, he continued batting.

Labuschagne had a close call against Marco Jansen when he edged the ball toward the slip fielder. But the umpire did not consider it a dismissal. But Anrich Nortje was able to dismiss this eccentric batter in the 47th over to break the 137-run stand between Labuschagne and Usman Khawaja.

Nortje delivered it on length and it nipped away. Labuschagne attempted to defend but it fell to the hands of Kyle Verreynne. Labuschagne departed after scoring 79 runs with 13 fours.

Australia are already leading the three-match Test series by 2-0. At the time of writing this article, Australia are at 147/2 as bad light interrupted the play.

Aussie skipper Pat Cummins won the toss and decided to bat first. Usman Khawaja and Steve Smith are at the crease batting at 54* and zero respectively. David Warner, who slammed a double ton in the second Test, fell for 10 runs off Anrich Nortje’s over.

Australia won the 1st Test by six wickets and won the second by a huge margin of an innings and 182 runs. Pat Cummins and Co. currently are holding the top spot in the World Test Champions points table and they seemingly will play the final. After wrapping up the ongoing Test series against South Africa, the Aussies will fly to India for four-match Test series in February.
