Why Twitter removed blue tick from Virat Kohli, MS Dhoni, Rohit Sharma and Sachin Tendulkar’s accounts?
Twitter started the process of removing the blue tick from accounts when Musk took over the company last year.

Hundreds and thousands of Twitter users woke up on Friday morning without a ‘blue tick’ on the platform. This happened at midnight when these users, including Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, Sachin Tendulkar, and MS Dhoni, who have a massive fan following on the micro-blogging platform, lost the blue tick.
Since 2009, celebrities were enjoying the blue checkmark without paying. This happened for the first time in the history of Twitter where celebrities could be seen without the blue tick. The reason behind this is Twitter CEO Elon Musk who had earlier announced that on April 20, the blue tick will be removed from the accounts if the users do not pay a monthly fee of $8 to the platform.
Twitter started the process of removing the blue tick from accounts when Musk took over the company last year. Now Twitter has come up with Twitter Blue where the users will have to pay $8 for the verified ticks.
The only users that have verified blue checks are those who are playing the $8 for Twitter Blue. In March this year, Twitter, on their official handle posted this: “On April 1st, we will begin winding down our legacy verified program and removing legacy verified checkmarks. To keep your blue checkmark on Twitter, individuals can sign up for Twitter Blue.”
