Tushar Deshpande and MS Dhoni
Mahendra Singh Dhoni-led Chennai Super Kings (CSK) defeated Gujarat Titans (GT) in IPL 2023 Final to lift their fifth title in 14 editions. CSK made a befitting comeback after finishing in the ninth position last year and went on to eventually win the title. Every player including captain MS Dhoni looked emotional post-CSK’s title win. However, the Chennai skipper was quick to remind his teammates to stay grounded.
Tushar Deshpande has revealed what MS Dhoni told his players after CSK won the IPL 2023 title. While revealing how Dhoni backed him, Deshpande also talked about MS Dhoni’s dressing room speech after the IPL 2023 Final. The CSK pacer revealed that Dhoni asked them to learn from their mistakes as well as remember what they did right.
“He told everyone hard work is paid off, but do remember what we did right this year and where we went wrong. Mahi bhai said, ‘Yeh season tumko kya seekha ke gaya hai, aur aage kya karna hai, yeh zaroor sochna’,” revealed Tushar Dehspande in a chat with The Indian Express.
“Once I didn’t bowl well, he came and said that with the new impact rule, 200 plus score is the new normal and he told me don’t worry about my place. He gave the surety which is what (young) players want,” said Deshpande about his chat with Dhoni.
What did MS Dhoni say to Shivam Dube?
Shivam Dube played an important role in CSK’s title victory. When the pressure was mounting, Dube hit Rashid Khan for a couple of sixes and brought the required rate down. Throughout the season, Dube targeted the spinners and looked to attack them from the ball go. Did he do it himself? No. Dube was asked by the CSK management to look to increase the run rate when he was in the middle.
“Mahi bhai gave me clarity of thought. He told me what my role is. It was simple tujhe jaake team ka run rate badhana hai. (You have to increase the run rate). Even if I get out early no problem but try to complete the task given. The brief was clear,” said Dube.
