Captain Rohit Sharma is going to participate in his 8th Asia Cup and will captain for the 3rd time in 2023. He debuted in the competition in 2008, when he used to be a middle order batsman. He wouldn’t be the Indian Team’s opener till 2013. He has played 22 ODIs, scoring 745 runs averaging 46.56.
Rohit Sharma was declared the captain of the ODI team in 2022 after Virat Kohli stepped down from the role. He had already captained the Indian team to victory in 2018, but in India underperformed in the 2022 Asia Cup. He will also captain the side in upcoming 2023 Asia Cup, and will hope to win. 2 weeks after the Asia Cup. India will host the 2023 ICC ODI World Cup.
He is also the most successful IPL Captain, tied with MS Dhoni. He won the IPL 5 times as captain and will hope to emulate his success with his franchise side for India.

Rohit Sharma’s performances in the Asia Cup
2008 Asia Cup
In 2008, India finished as runners-up against Sri Lanka. In that competition Rohit scored 116 runs in 6 innings, averaging 29. He had scored an important half century against Pakistan in the Super 4 stage in a winning cause.
2010 Asia Cup
In 2010 India were the champions of the tournament. Rohit played all 4 matches for India and scored 132 runs, averaging 33 runs. He scored his 2nd Asia Cup half century against Sri Lanka in the group stage and scored a vital 41 off 52 in the finals.
2012 Asia Cup
In 2012, India had failed to qualify for the finals. Rohit started the competition poorly, getting out for 4 against Bangladesh. He did not bat in the first game against Sri Lanka. Rohit finished the tournament though, scoring 68 against Pakistan while chasing 330.
2014 Asia Cup
By 2014, Rohit had cemented his spot as the opener of the team along with Shikhar Dhawan, replacing Virender Sehwag and Gautam Gambhir. India had failed to qualify for the Finals again. Rohit scored only 108 runs in 4 innings, with one half century against Pakistan.
2018 Asia Cup
Rohit had his best Asia Cup campaign as a batsman in the 2018 edition. He had captained the side after Virat was rested for the competition. India ended up winning the competition, with Rohit scoring 317 runs in 4 innings. Scored his 5th Asia Cup Half century against Pakistan in the group stage and scored yet another half century against Bangladesh in the next game. In the Super 4 game against Pakistan, Rohit scored his highest score in Asia Cup, scoring 111* against Pakistan. In the finals against Bangladesh, Rohit scored a crucial 48 runs as well.
