‘Vintage Dhoni’ finishes off in style
Talking about the game, CSK smashed Mumbai by a thrilling 3 wicket. When CSK won the toss, they elected to bowl first. CSK’s Mukesh Chaudhary then wreaked havoc among the MI openers as both of them were sent back to the pavilion for ducks. With the help of Suraykumar Yadav (32) and Tilak Verma (51) Mumbai were able go past 150 mark and eventually scored 155/7 in 20 overs.
CSK responded with losing Ruturaj Gaikwad for duck. Robin Uthappa scored 30 off 25 balls and Ambati Rayudu scored 40 off 35 balls. After the crucial wicket of Ambati Rayudu, it looked as if Mumbai would get their first 2 points in IPL and then walked in MS Dhoni.
MS Dhoni did what he is known for that is, finishing off in style. In the last over 17 runs were needed and with a six, four, two, and a four, MS Dhoni showed his vintage form and helped CSK clinch victory over Mumbai Indians by 3 wickets.
“In the end it was a great fight from us, we were in the game after not batting well, the bowlers kept us in, but in the end you know how towering MSD can be and he took them home. It’s hard to put a finger on anything, but we’re not starting well in the match. If you lose quick wickets, you’ll always be playing the catching game. But I thought we did well to keep them under pressure, we did so until the last over, but Pretorius and Dhoni took them home. We always back ourselves to do well, but as I said, we lost too many early wickets, we did make a good comeback with both bat and ball, but it wasn’t enough in the end,” said Rohit Sharma in the post-match presentation.
