WATCH – Shubman Gill, Rishabh Pant and other Indian cricketers hit the gym ahead of WTC final
Shubman Gill
Shubman Gill, Rishabh Pant and the rest of the Indian cricketers took to training today ahead of the final of the World Test Championship (WTC) amidst their quarantine period in Mumbai. The summit clash against New Zealand at the Ageas Bowl in Southampton is bound to be a huge clash as it will be the culmination of a two-year long tournament that saw teams play bilateral series against each other to decide the finalists.
The New Zealanders meanwhile, are already in the UK as they have a two-match Test series against England before the final. For India on the other hand, they won’t have any match practice but will start their tour of England with the final before they have a five-match Test series against England in August. It is only after that series that they will return home which could further be delayed if the remainder of the Indian Premier League (IPL 2021) is scheduled to be played soon after the tour.
Watch – Shubman Gill and co sweat it out
The official handle of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) posted a video today that they captioned, “Getting stronger each day!” which showed the Indian players sweating it out at the gym during quarantine as they trained for the WTC final. The likes of Shubman Gill and Rishabh Pant were seen hitting the gym and focusing to get to full fitness before they travel to England.
India are likely to go with Gill as one of the openers along with Rohit Sharma. Although the 21-year-old did not have a particularly good series against England, he showed in Australia where he had a baptism by fire that he can handle pressure and come up with crucial knocks for his side even when the chips are down. Rishabh Pant is also certain to start as the wicket-keeper thanks to his stupendous run of form over the course of the last year.
