“No idea” Virat Kohli opens up on Rahul Dravid’s appointment as India’s head coach

The appointment of former Indian skipper Rahul Dravid as India’s next head coach has wreaked havoc in the cricket fraternity. India’s current head coach Ravi Shastri tenure will end after the T20 World Cup and the veteran isn’t keen on extending his contract with the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).

Thus, the Indian cricket board’s search for a new head coach has ended on Rahul Dravid. Though Dravid was initially reluctant about taking up the role, it is learned that the BCCI officials were successful in convincing the legendary cricketer. Dravid is likely to don the coach hat for the Men in Blue after the completion of the upcoming T20 World Cup, scheduled in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

On Saturday, India’s current skipper Virat Kohli was involved in a pre-tournament media interaction organized by the International Cricket Council (ICC). During the session, when Kohli was questioned regarding Dravid, the skipper revealed that he has no idea what exactly is happening. Kohli also admitted to not having a conversation with anyone regarding the head coach yet.

“No idea exactly what’s happening on that front. No detailed discussion with anyone yet,” Kohli said when asked about Dravid’s appointment.

Further in the interaction, Kohli also spoke candidly about the appointment of MS Dhoni as a mentor for the Indian team in the upcoming T20 World Cup. The Indian skipper believes that the inclusion of Dhoni will help the team in creating a positive environment as the former Indian skipper will act as a perfect mentor for the young players.

“He has got massive experience. He is quite excited himself. He has always been a mentor for all of us. Younger guys who are playing their first major tournaments at early stages of their career will benefit,”

“His eye for intricate details and practical advice will help improve the game by one or two percent. Absolutely delighted to have him…(His) presence will not only boost morale but also increase confidence that we already have,” Kohli said during the media session.
