WATCH: Alex Hales awkwardly ignores Eoin Morgan during entire interview
A video of Alex Hales is doing rounds on the internet where he is seen awkwardly ignoring former England skipper Eoin Morgan during an interview. The interview was of a couple of days ago following England’s win over Sri Lanka to confirm their semifinal berth at the ongoing T20 World Cup.
England chasing 142 against the Lankans, Hales gave a flying start to the innings as he smashed 47 runs off just 30 deliveries, including 7 fours and a six. His wicket led to a batting collapse before all-rounder Ben Stokes took the responsibility of taking the Lions over the line.
After the match, Hales gave an interview to Sky Sports, where he talked about the feeling of being qualified and England’s game plan for the rest of the tournament. However, the interview made the headlines for something else. Netizens noticed that Hales ignored Morgan for the entire interview and didn’t even stare at him once.
To put this in context, under Mogan’s captaincy, Hales wasn’t selected despite consistent performances in the domestic leagues. Even ahead of the 2019 World Cup, he failed the drug test twice and was eventually withdrawn from the squad. He was also handed a 21-day suspension.
Alex Hales proving his worth
One man’s loss is another man’s gain. This quote fits perfectly for Alex Hales, whose international career has taken a new shape ever since earning a call back in the national team setup. He was given the nod after Jonny Bairstow suffered an injury and was ruled out of the showpiece event.
The right-handed opener dropped a solid performance in the seven-match T20I series against Pakistan. Following which, he was preferred for the opening slot. He has done justice to his position in XI as he has been in fine touch and contributed to England’s success so far.
England finished second in their group and will play the second semifinal. Their opponents will be decided on Sunday (November 6) as all the teams in Group 2 will battle out for the two positions. As per the latest happenings, India have already qualified for the semifinals.
