WATCH: KL Rahul falls cheaply in the first innings of first Test match against Bangladesh
Batter KL Rahul, who is leading the Indian side in the absence of Rohit Sharma, failed to make an impact with the bat in the first innings of the ongoing first match of the two-match Test series. Winning the toss, India elected to bat first at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium, Chattogram.
The Indian openers looked comfortable in the initial stages of the game. However, Taijul Islam drew first blood as he dismissed Shubman Gill on just 20. After a few overs, even KL Rahul had to walk off the field, giving India another early blow in the match. It was pacer Khaled Ahmed who managed to deceive the Indian opener.
Ahmed bowled a length ball outside the off-stump and Rahul tried guiding it towards the point region. However, the ball remained low and as a result, Rahul got a thick inside edge and the ball went on to crash onto the stumps. The 30-year-old batter returned to the pavilion after scoring 22 off 54 deliveries.
KL Rahul is impressed by BazBall
KL Rahul praised England’s Test cricket approach after their thumping series win against Pakistan on foreign soil. He feels that the three Lions haven’t played recklessly but have developed a certain mindset and backed their players to do the job. He also stated that their is no determined approach of how the game should be played.
“As cricketers, I don’t think it is reckless cricket. They have certain mindset, they thought about it, they back their players and the players are doing the job for the team, so it doesn’t matter how you have done it. Cricket is changing, there is no set way of how this game needs to be played,” the opener said.

The Men in Blue are still in the scheme of things to qualify for the World Test Championship (WTC) 2021-23 final. However, the path will not be easy as they need to win at least five out of their remaining six Test matches. While they are currently engaged in a two-match series against Bangladesh, they will lock horns with Australia for four Test matches early next year.
