- Chennai Super Kings have filed a complaint with the BCCI against Royal Challengers Bengaluru over 'culture stereotyping' related to stadium music.
- The complaint centers on the repeated playing of the song 'Dosa, Idli, Sambhar, Chutney' during matches, which CSK claims mocks Tamil culture.
- CSK management has introduced guidelines for DJs to avoid targeting opposition players, but RCB's DJ allegedly violated these during their recent clash.
In a notable development, the Chennai Super Kings have filed a complaint with the BCCI against rivals Royal Challengers Bengaluru. CSK officials have written to the board, citing ‘culture stereotyping’ related to the music played by the DJ at the Chinnaswamy Stadium.
RCB and CSK met at the start of the ongoing 2026 IPL season, where the defending champions emerged victorious by a comfortable margin of 46 runs. Batting first, they put up a mammoth 250/3 on the board, guided by Tim David’s blistering 70 off 25 balls. The Super Kings, in response, were bowled out for just 207 runs in 19.4 overs, with veteran pacer Bhuvneshwar Kumar picking up a three-wicket haul.
However, the rivalry has moved beyond the field and into the stands, with supporters engaging in intense verbal exchanges and banter. A fresh controversy has erupted over RCB’s usage of the 2022 track ‘Dosa, Idli, Sambhar, Chutney’, which evolved from a viral meme.
It began in 2025, when RCB’s Jitesh Sharma mocked Chennai by singing this Gana Appu song in a witty manner. Later during the season, the Chepauk DJ played the same song after Sharma’s dismissal to hit back.

Following the episode, the CSK management reportedly introduced clearer guidelines to ensure DJs avoid targeting opposition players or fans. However, at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, RCB’s home ground, the DJ did not adopt this neutral approach, repeatedly playing the ‘Dosa, Idli, Sambhar, Chutney’ song during their IPL 2026 clash. It seems to have left the CSK management irked, who have viewed it as mocking the franchise’s Tamil culture and heritage.
CSK director Kasi Viswanathan confirmed that the franchise has submitted a formal complaint to the BCCI. He even stated that while stadium DJs are expected to chant for the home side, the behavior at the Chinnaswamy crossed a line into not being in ‘good taste’. Besides the song, he even objected to certain comments made by the DJ on the players after their dismissal during the second innings of the clash. He told the reporters:
The DJs are usually around to support the home team. But at the Chinnaswamy Stadium, it was different. Certain comments were made against our players. Considering it, we have written to the BCCI to have a look into it.

According to CSK the choice of song ‘idli, dosa, chutney chutney’ was not in good taste. (Express Sports).
Nonetheless, it adds another layer to the CSK-RCB rivalry, which has often seen fans violently clashing with each other outside the stadiums. Both teams will, however, not face each other a second time in the ongoing 2026 IPL season, in a major disappointment to fans.
Thala’s return: Speculation mounts on when MS Dhoni will rejoin CSK for IPL 2026?
The wait might finally be over, with MS Dhoni expected to make his much-anticipated return to playing in IPL 2026. The legendary wicket-keeper batter had not traveled to Guwahati or Bengaluru for CSK’s previous away games this season, but has reached Hyderabad.

Chennai Super Kings next face off against Sunrisers Hyderabad on Saturday, April 18, and it could mark Dhoni’s return to action after three weeks of absence. The 44-year-old had been ruled out of action at the start of the season due to a calf strain, later clarified as a groin issue. While an official statement on his return is yet to be issued, it is more or less certain that the former India captain is match-ready.
He has surprisingly stayed away from the CSK dugout for all five matches so far, while being a part of the training camp. Dhoni did not travel out of Chennai for the team’s away games, but his decision to join the traveling party for the match against SRH has sent social media into a frenzy. Looking sharp and in great shape, MS Dhoni arrived in Hyderabad today alongside his wife, Sakshi, and their daughter, Ziva.

Although the five-time IPL-winning captain’s leadership was noticeably absent when CSK lost its first three matches, the situation has improved. The team now appears to have mounted a comeback, securing two consecutive victories against DC and KKR.
