Indian fans thought they would witness India‘s first defeat in this 2023 ODI World Cup as they posted a small total of 229/9 in 50 overs at the Ekana Sports City in Lucknow on Sunday (October 29). But to the surprise of the watchers of the game, the Indian team gave a tough fight, thanks to the bowlers, and bundled out Jos Buttler and company for a mere 129 runs in 34.5 overs.
After winning the toss, England decided to bowl first. From the very start, England’s tight bowling did not let the bat talk except in captain Rohit Sharma‘s case. He led from the front and blasted a brilliant 87 runs from 101 balls with 10 fours and three maximums.
Apart from Rohit, KL Rahul (39) and Suryakumar Yadav (49) also played crucial knocks to take India to 229/9 in 50 overs. David Wiley scalped the most wickets (three).
England got off to a decent start but couldn’t capitalize much on it as Jasprit Bumrah’s back-to-back wickets in the fifth over shifted the momentum. He dismissed Dawid Malan for 16 and Joe Root for golden duck. Ben Stokes and bowler Mark Wood also departed for ducks in this match.
Mohammed Shami scalped the most wickets by getting rid of four batters, helping India wrap up the match quickly. His victims were Jonny Bairstow, Ben Stokes, Moeen Ali, and Adil Rashid.

This was England’s fifth defeat of the World Cup after six matches. Their lone win came against Bangladesh. Indian Team on the other hand has won all six matches it has played and is the only undefeated team in the tournament so far.
