Dak Prescott wasn’t thrilled to hear a Dallas Cowboys staff member call his performance against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers “embarrassing.” Well, he wasn’t far off. Prescott completed 57.1% of his passes, threw one touchdown and two interceptions—and nearly conceded a third.

With the score at 7-all, Prescott threw a wayward pass after avoiding an impending sack. His pass fell short of his intended target and was nearly picked off by Tykee Smith. The referee ruled the pass incomplete because the ball hit the turf before Smith gained control.

In the third quarter, the Bucs led by four points. On third down, Prescott threw a hard pass toward Ryan Flournoy. The ball bounced off Flournoy’s palms and landed in Bucs defender Yaya Diaby’s hands.

Cut to fourth quarter, Prescott threw a touchdown pass to George Pickens inside the endzone. However, he failed to convert on the two-point try. The momentum got wiped out a couple of minutes later.

Prescott’s smashed a pass into tight end Jake Ferguson’s facemask in the midfield. Bucs LB Alex Anzalone caught the loose ball, handing Prescott his second interception.

Prescott completed 24 of 42 passes for 316 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions (had thrown just one interception prior to TNF). He finished with a 69.1 passer rating (lowest of the year so far).

The Cowboys dropped 2-3 after five weeks. Only the Washington Commanders have a worse record in the NFC East, but they have played one fewer game.

The Athletic’s Jon Machota shared a minor post-game spat from inside the AT&T Stadium tunnel, which went viral immediately.

Prescott was heading back to the locker room when a Cowboys staff member shouted “embarrassing” at him. The 33-year-old gave him the side-eye and silently disappeared out of sight.

Dak Prescott gives his honest opinion on the Cowboys TNF loss to the Buccaneers

Dallas was coming off a morale-boosting victory over the Houston Texans last Sunday. The Bucs arrived in Arlington winless and without star quarterback Baker Mayfield. Rookie Jalon Daniels deputized for Baker.

The Cowboys weren’t great in the first half despite scoring first. A slender three-point lead at halftime made the matchup interesting. But Dallas capitulated after the restart. Cowboys allowed the Bucs a touchdown in just two plays. Later, WR Emeka Egbuka scored on a jet sweep.

On the next drive, Prescott threw his first interception—which counted. The Bucs widened the gap when Bucky Irving navigated through a crowd of players for a one-yard score.

To make matters worse, Kavontae Turpin, who earned All-Pro and Pro Bowl selection and was named the league’s best returner last year, fumbled.

Prescott threw his first touchdown pass just five minutes before the end. However, he also threw his and the Cowboys’ second interception a couple of minutes later. It ended 24-16.

At the post-game presser, Prescott admitted the Cowboys let a winnable game slip through their hands.

We were definitely supposed to win this game, and in this league, you’ve gotta win the games you’re supposed to win… When a winless team comes into your home stadium, on Thursday night, primetime game, yeah, we’re supposed to win that. So, it sucks, and right up there close to embarrassing, but I don’t know if I would say that.

Dak Prescott said via Cowboys beat writer Patrik Walker.

In five games, Dak Prescott has thrown 129 completions on 192 attempts (67.2%) for 1381 yards, 9 touchdowns, and 3 interceptions.

Up next, the Cowboys travel to Lambeau Field to play the Green Bay Packers. Prescott is 1-3-1 against the Cowboys’ NFC rivals.
