Richard Childress Racing’s Kyle Busch recently made some comments about the over aggressive racers of NASCAR that got mixed reactions. The two times Cup champion declared composite bodies are ruining the art of racing. Hall of Famer Dale Earnhardt Jr. wasn’t a fan of the comment, and he shared his perspective on the topic.

The discussion was the product of the Kansas Truck Series race finish were Carson Hocevar and Layne Riggs had a wild encounter. Via the Dale Jr. Download podcast, Dale Earnhardt Jr. asserted that he doesn’t agree with Kyle Busch as he likes some racers, Like Hocevar and Ross Chastain, being a**holes on the track.

I like that they race like a**holes. I know that we give Carson Hocevar a lot of s**t, and at times, we gave [Ross] Chastain some s**t and some other guys. But I want more of those guys in the field.

Dale Earnhardt Jr. said via Dale Jr. Download.

So why does Dale Jr. want more such drivers to be involved in NASCAR? Well, he understands the drivers can nowadays afford to be more aggressive as the cars are capable of taking the damage. But this is also an issue for Junior, as he misses seeing the damaged cars. The veteran was once a aggressive driver himself, so it’s not a surprise he loves the chaos.

I like the composite bodies because the drivers have been able to get more aggressive with them, in some cases, too aggressive. Particularly in the Xfinity Series, we destroy cars for no reason because they look at the bodies and stuff like just throwaways. They’re not really, they’re kind of expensive. I do miss being able to look at a car and see the damage.

The HOF in the same podcast, also discussed the middle figure controversy. After the race Giggs claimed that Hocevar gave him the middle figure after the duo almost wrecked due to the aggressive move from the latter to take over the lead. The latter didn’t own his actions in any of his post-race comments.

Junior doesn’t have any issues with the Spire Motorsports driver taking jibes at Giggs and not owing the birdie. It’s wise move as if he had admitted to the action, there would have been a massive backlash on social media and NASCAR might even penalize him due to it. It’s the right move from Hocevar, as him being one of the most hated drivers in the garage is something that put him in a tough spot.

I didn’t mind that he didn’t own it…I know that he by owning it has opened himself up to some sort of retaliation from NASCAR, and NASCAR is reactive. If he owns it, and there’s a big backlash on social media, NASCAR then reacts to that.

Dale Earnhardt Jr. said.

The veteran in the podcast had some solid criticism and word of appreciation about Carson Hocevar. It is capable of changing the perspective some fans have about the drivers who has the potential to become a future Cup Series champion and the next big superstar of the sport. It would be interesting to see how everything would playout for Hocevar in the future.
