Dan Hooker recently secured a spectacular win at UFC 305. In the octagon interview, ‘The Hangman’ pulled off a shocker by calling out UFC superstar Conor McGregor. However, the callout was more about former rival, Michael Chandler than fighting ‘The Notorious’. Here is what happened:
Dan Hooker won via split decision win over Mateusz Gamrot at UFC 305. After that, he called out Conor McGregor, surprising many fans and fighters. However, Hooker later revealed that his callout was more about playing a “troll” move against Michael Chandler.
I didn’t necessarily call him out, I just said like, because I am absolute troll, so it’s like the biggest troll move you could do of all time is to snake that fight off Chandler.Dan Hooker on The Mac Life
Hooker stated that he would enjoy taking the McGregor fight away from Chandler. ‘Iron’ has been waiting for that matchup forever now. He joked about earning a “black belt in troll Olympics” if he could pull it off. The Kiwi does not mind stirring the pot for some drama.
Despite the bold callout, Dan Hooker remains focused on tougher matchups. He has eyed potential fights against top contenders like Charles Oliveira and Arman Tsarukyan as part of his path toward a potential title shot.
Michael Chandler tweets about Dan Hooker’s win at UFC 305
While Dan Hooker is out trolling Michael Chandler, ‘Iron’ too had his eyes on ‘The Hangman’. Chandler sent out a series of tweets on X during UFC 305, commenting on the fight. He even posted a comparison video of him taking out Hooker, and Kai Kara-France taking out Steve Erceg in a similar fashion.
Back in 2021, Michael Chandler made his UFC debut against Dan Hooker at UFC 257. Chandler delivered a stunning first-round TKO victory. The fight did not last long. Chandler quickly found his range, landing a powerful right hand that dropped Hooker.
The former Bellator star immediately swarmed with ground-and-pound, forcing the referee to stop the fight at 2:30 of the first round. This victory marked Chandler as a serious contender in the lightweight division and was a perfect introduction to his UFC career.
