‘That’s a fight I would like’ – Dan Hooker on fighting Rafael dos Anjos!
Dan Hooker
Dan Hooker is yearning to get back to the octagon. The number 8 ranked UFC lightweight last faced UFC newcomer Michael Chandler and was knocked out in the very first round. The loss pushed him to number 8 in the rankings. The Kiwi is now ready and has some big names lined up.
Speaking in an interview with South China Morning Post, Dan Hooker revealed that he would like to face former lightweight champion Rafael dos Anjos next, while also mentioning Justin Gaethje. Speaking about Justin Gaethje, Dan Hooker revealed that Gaethje would wait until the right time, and wouldn’t risk it all by fighting him (Hooker).
‘Like a lot of people, if you give that enough time, he’ll brush that off‘ – Dan Hooker on Justin Gaethje
Dan Hooker was quoted as saying, “Obviously, there’s only two real names out there at the moment and that’s Gaethje or RDA. Gaethje, I feel will sit and wait. His most recent defeat is to Khabib [Nurmagmedov]. Like a lot of people, if you give that enough time, he’ll brush that off. [via SCMP]
About Gaethje, Hooker said, “Gaethje right now is in a position for a huge opportunity. It would be dangerous for him to fight a guy like RDA. It’ll be very dangerous for him to fight a guy like me and give me an opportunity to jump the queue again and get in a position like that.” [via SCMP]
Justifying that fighting RDA would be the best option, Hooker exclaimed, “That’s a fight I would like. That’s a former champion. Coming back beating [Paul] Felder. He did incredible in that fight. Behind Gaethje, [he] would be number one on my list.” [via SCMP]
Rafael dos Anjos is coming off a split decision victory over Paul Felder at UFC Fight Night in November 2020, thereby shrugging off a two-match skid. Beating Hooker would do the Brazilian, a world of good, as it can help him go a long way, towards one last push for the lightweight title.
