Dan Hooker has been on a good run lately. As such, the UFC lightweight recently campaigned to fight Irish superstar Conor McGregor. However, his proposal consisted of a lighthearted and humorous twist. Here is what happened:
Dan Hooker recently sat down for an interview with Submission Radio. During their discussion, Hooker proposed that, if they ever faced off in the octagon, both he and Conor McGregor would have to send each other beers every day during their fight camps.
We'll just see how everything plays out because obviously the Golden Goose is without a dance partner as well... He's without a fight, I know Conor is hungry to fight and fight someone he can get something from, and it makes a lot of senseDan Hooker on Submission Radio
He even suggested they make it a daily competition, sending each other failed breathalyzer tests. This added a playful tone to what would normally be an intense preparation period. Hooker’s confidence is backed by his recent performances, particularly his impressive win at UFC 290 against Jalin Turner.
A result of his heart and tenacity to get a split decision win. Moreover, he also defeated Mateusz Gamrot at UFC 305. With McGregor yet to confirm his next opponent and Michael Chandler’s potential fight with McGregor seemingly stalled, Hooker is seizing the moment to make his case.
‘The Hangman’ believes his personality and fighting style make him a fitting challenger for McGregor. He even called out the former double champion after his electric win at UFC 305. McGregor has been out of the octagon since his injury in 2021. Any return is expected to be a major event. Whether McGregor will take the bait remains to be seen. But Hooker’s campaign has certainly added to the buzz surrounding McGregor’s next move.
Dan Hooker states why Conor McGregor should not fight Michael Chandler
Conor McGregor has reaffirmed his intent to return to the UFC in 2025. ‘The Notorious’ is still eyeing Michael Chandler as his desired opponent for a long-awaited showdown. McGregor and Chandler were initially set to fight after coaching on The Ultimate Fighter 32, with a match planned for UFC 303 in June.

However, McGregor withdrew due to a broken toe, further delaying his comeback. Chandler has since moved on and is preparing for a pivotal fight against Charles Oliveira at UFC 309. However, McGregor remains hopeful for a future clash with him. Dan Hooker stated his reasons in the interview with Submission Radio, why he thinks Chandler vs. McGregor is not an ideal fight.
I feel like Conor is kind of sitting there and waiting, and not staying active; you kind of lose… like what does he get out of beating Chandler? He knocks out Michael Chandler in the first round, and Conor McGregor doesn’t even get into the top five off of that performance.Dan Hooker continued
The Irishman has expressed a desire to fulfill the remaining two fights on his UFC contract by 2025. Once those bouts are completed, McGregor could test free agency. He may explore other combat sports options, such as boxing, or possibly compete in his Bare Knuckle Fighting Championship (BKFC) promotion.
