In 2016, Red Bull sacked Daniil Kvyat as he was unable to meet the team’s expectations. The Russian driver lost his seat to Max Verstappen, who had shown immense potential during his time at Toro Rosso. Now, his former teammate Daniel Ricciardo has faced a similar fate after being sacked at Red Bull’s sister team VCARB.
Daniil Kvyat has expressed confidence in his abilities as a driver, stating that if he had been given a competitive car, he could have fought for the Formula 1 title. He emphasized that he doesn’t want to make exaggerated claims about winning easily because F1 is highly competitive.
Kvyat asserted that he didn’t have access to a race-winning car during his time at Red Bull. After he was replaced by Max Verstappen, the team developed a fast car that showcased the Dutchman’s skills even further.
Daniil Kvyat asserts ‘stars need to be in your favor’ to have a successful career in Formula 1
Daniil Kvyat explains that in F1, success isn’t about being the greatest driver, luck and timing also play crucial roles. To win races, a driver must be behind the wheel of the best car and also need to make smart decisions and implement effective strategies during the race.
Having skills and abilities alone isn’t enough as good fortune is essential. Kvyat believes that the element of luck was missing during his career with Red Bull, which affected his chances of success.
Ricciardo faced a similar situation recently. The Australian struggled to regain the form he had during his peak years with the team. With him continuing to fall short of expectations, Red Bull ultimately decided to part ways with him, just as they had done with Kvyat in 2016.
