Daniil Medvedev once again exchanged some heated words with the umpire after receiving a code violation. Medvedev was playing in his second-round match at the Shanghai Masters against Matteo Arnaldi on Sunday (October 6) when the incident took place.

He lost the first set and when he received the code violation during the second set, he appeared to say something to the umpire. The 28-year-old then received a point penalty and it made him angry. In spite of the outburst, Medvedev won the set and eventually the match with a scoreline of 5-7, 6-4, 6-4.

What I did is, I got angry when they first called violation, so I made, was the impression that I’m saying something under my hand or under my mouth, how do you say it, but I didn’t say anything, I was murmuring something like, ‘Oh, you’re bad, you’re bad, you’re bad’.

Daniil Medvedev said at the press conference

The Russian then said that after he got the second code, he “went crazy.” But he wanted to manage the moment of the match to his advantage and was successful in doing so. He believes he needs to lose his cool to win matches without crossing the line.

I just don’t need to cross the line and be friends after the match because that’s how sport works also.

Daniil Medvedev says tennis balls used in Shanghai Masters are benefitting Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner

Several players have complained about the tennis balls used in Shanghai being too slow and Daniil Medvedev, after his match against Matteo Arnaldi, wrote “Nice balls” on the television camera. After the match, the Russian stated Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz were the only players who could benefit from the ball as they have the ability to generate “crazy power“.

Actually, the two best players at doing this, they’re already the best players in the world, and I’m sure they would be without the balls.

Medvedev will next face either Stefanos Tsitsipas or Alexandre Muller. Against the Greek, Medvedev has won nine matches out of the 13 they have played so far. Medvedev has played one game against Muller and won it.

Medvedev, who has won 20 titles overall on the ATP Tour, is searching for his first trophy of the season. Prior to Shanghai, he reached the semifinals of the China Open, which he lost to Alcaraz in straight sets
