Daniil Medvedev left perplexed after defeat to Carlos Alcaraz in Beijing Open semifinal
After losing to Carlos Alcaraz for the third consecutive time this year, Daniil Medvedev is unsure why he is unable to beat the Spaniard.

Russian ATP star Daniil Medvedev is unable to crack the code against Carlos Alcaraz. The World No. 5 fell to the Spaniard for the third consecutive time this year as Alcaraz beat him in the Beijing Open semifinals. Despite playing his best game, Medvedev lost in straight sets.
After the match, Medvedev spoke about his performance and claimed he was playing well. The 2021 US Open champion was perplexed that he lost despite playing well. However, Medvedev admitted that it was a tough match for him with Alcaraz playing at his best level. He also joked about changing his hair color and having ‘Botic’ written on his chest the next time he faced the four-time Major winner.
Medvedev lost 7-5, 6-3 to Carlos Alcaraz on Tuesday (October 1). The Russian ace was troubled by his hip during the second set and he received treatment from the physio at 2-3 and 3-4. Yet, the World No. 5 continued to compete well after both changeovers. However, a win was not meant to be for Medvedev, who is still searching for his first title of the season.
Daniil Medvedev not too disappointed with his Beijing Open semifinal
Although he has not won a title yet, Daniil Medvedev is not too disappointed with his performance at the Beijing Open. After a below-par performance at the Laver Cup, Medvedev was happy to register three good wins.
The Russian beat Gael Monfils 6-3, 6-4 in the first round. Medvedev had to fight a bit harder against Adrian Mannarino in the second round as they played a tiebreaker in the first set which the Russian won 8-6. He won the second set 6-2. In the third round, Medvedev took down his Laver Cup teammate Flavio Cobolli 6-2, 6-4 to set up a clash against Alcaraz.
After Beijing, Medvedev will now focus on the next big assignment – Shanghai Masters. He has stated 5 said that he wants to continue this positive dynamic and the fifth seed is set to face Thiago Seyboth Wild or qualifier Daniel Evans in his opening match in the Masters 1000 tournament.
