Daniil Medvedev and Carlos Alcaraz battled it out in a high-stake semifinal clash at the China Open. With emotions and tension already through the roof, the last thing Medvedev expected was a technical glitch. The Russian was seen airing out his frustration in the first set to a line judge who tried to explain the tech mishap.

Medvedev forced the match to a tiebreak in the first set after being down 3-5. At 5-5, 0-15, the line judge ruled in Alcaraz’s favor after an intense rally. Medvedev demanded a review but was informed that the facility for that was not available at the moment due to some technical errors.

That left the World No. 5 extremely frustrated. In a clip on social media, he was seen venting out his anger at the judges and also took a dig at the organizers of the event for not resolving the issue before the match.

Why (does) ATP pay Hawk-Eye then? Hawk-Eye sucks, no? Don’t trust Hawk-Eye. Not my sponsor. Why the ATP bye hawk eye services if we can’t see a mid point call? Don’t buy hawkeye, guys.

Medvedev, who was hoping to reach his first ATP final since March, went on to lose the match 7-5, 6-3. Despite consistent performances on the ATP Tour, he is yet to win a title since the 2023 Italian Open. This season, he has seen his title hopes cut short five times by either Jannik Sinner or Alcaraz.

Carlos Alcaraz hoped to face Yunchakete Bu rather than Jannik Sinner in the China Open final

Carlos Alcaraz has earned a place in the China Open final, where he will face Jannik Sinner. The Italian defeated Yunchakete Bu in the other semifinal clash. However, he had admitted that he hoped to face Bu rather than Sinner in the final.

Obviously Bu. I’m not going to lie. Jannik is the best player in the world right now. Bu is playing a great tennis during the whole week, beating really top players. If I have to choose or I could say who is the best for me to play a final, if I want to win it, Bu.

Carlos Alcaraz said during his on-court interview

Chinese sensation Bu has been a star for the home crowd at the China Open. He beat Lorenzo Musetti in the second round to earn his first Top 20 victory and then went on to beat Andrey Rublev in the quarterfinals, earning his first Top 10 win. Bu had hoped to cause a major upset against Sinner in their semifinal match but it was not meant to be.

On the other hand, Alcaraz has won three finals and lost only one this season. His only defeat in a title match came in the singles final of the Paris Olympics, where he lost to Novak Djokovic.
