Daniil Medvedev seems to be returning to his full competitive form. The Russian has made it to the second semifinal of the season after reaching the Halle Open last four.
However, there was a problem during his quarterfinal against Alex Michelsen. The former World No.1 was seen taking a medical timeout for a problem which seems to be related to bleeding. He talked about it in his post-match interview. Medvedev said in his post-match press conference:
I tend to get nosebleeds in dry environments. In the south of France, where I live, it doesn’t happen to me because of the humidity, but here the environment is drier and I immediately noticed the bleeding starting. It’s not a serious or new problem.
Medvedev seems to be struggling with form throughout the season. He has only won one Grand Slam match so far this season, which came in a five-set win in the opening round of the Australian Open. The Russian hopes to return to full form at Wimbledon. He made the semifinals last year at SW19, beating World No.1 Jannik Sinner in the process.
Daniil Medvedev marks special milestone
Former World No.1 Daniil Medvedev celebrated a major career milestone on Wednesday by earning his 400th tour-level victory. He defeated Quentin Halys 6-2, 7-5 at the Terra Wortmann Open in Halle. This win reflects the consistent performance and resilience of the 29-year-old, who has captured 20 career titles and reached the top of the ATP rankings.

Reflecting on his career, Medvedev identified his 2021 US Open final win over Novak Djokovic as his most memorable. He explained that although he has many significant victories, claiming his only Grand Slam title against one of the sport’s greats stands out above all others.
He also shared fond memories of his first ATP win, which came in 2016 against Horacio Zeballos on grass in ’s-Hertogenbosch. Medvedev recalled that Zeballos underestimated him, thinking he was playing a lower-ranked opponent. The victory brought him great excitement and marked a meaningful start to his tour journey.
From that early triumph to his recent 400th win, Medvedev’s career reflects persistence and steady growth. His path serves as a clear example of how patience, learning, and determination shape long-term success in professional tennis.
Daniil Medvedev encounters Alexander Zverev in Halle Open semifinals
Alexander Zverev booked his spot in the semi-finals of the Terra Wortmann Open despite a tough start. He struggled with illness early in his quarter-final against Flavio Cobolli and had to take a quick bathroom break at 1-0 in the first set. However, the German recovered well to secure a 6-4, 7-6(6) win in Halle.

This match was a repeat of their Roland Garros third-round clash just weeks ago, which Zverev also won in straight sets. His serve was a major weapon, winning 81% of points on his first serve. He also fought off all six break points, saving 0/40 situations twice during the match.
Zverev, who reached the final in Stuttgart last week, is aiming for consecutive finals on grass. His next opponent in the semi-final is Daniil Medvedev, a familiar rival with whom he shares a long history on tour.
Earlier in the day, Medvedev defeated Alex Michelsen 6-4, 6-3 to reach his third semi-final of the season. The Russian is set to return to the Top 10 in the ATP Rankings next week and currently leads Zverev 12-7 in their head-to-head matchups.
