I’m like, ‘Sanjay, you’re a software engineer. Shut the f**k up. Why are you texting me like you’re Julius Caesar? Mamba mentality.’ Mamba mentality? Sanjay, you blew your knee out playing pickleball and you’re quoting Kobe Bryant? If Kobe knew you were quoting him, he would put you in a helicopter and crash that s**t himself.

This reference instantly drew a shocked reaction from the assembled audience, as they knew that referencing the late NBA champion‘s death in this way was a bit over the top. Minhaj swiftly moved on to another reference to not deter the mood, but it was enough to make the clip go viral.

Russell Westbrook references Kobe Bryant in handling hate

Russell Westbrook was one of the young superstars during the late Lakers legend’s final years in the league. Now on his sixth team where he has previously dealt with considerable hate from fans. When asked about this at a Denver Nuggets press conference, he referenced another Kobe Bryant mindset.

Over the course of my career, I’ve been booed and all that stuff everywhere else. But I take it as a sign of respect just like the late Kobe Bryant. If people don’t say anything, then you should be worried. For me, I take it as a level of respect.

Russell Westbrook on how he deals with hate

The former league MVP has had multiple altercations with fans in several arenas. But as he said, he has been dealing with it for a while and sees it as a mark of respect. The fans feel they can unsettle the superstar with their taunts. There are times when he seemed as if he lost his cool.

But then, he also knows how to channel that into some terrific play on the court. The late Los Angeles Lakers superstar excelled at doing that. Westbrook is channeling whatever he can from the late great.
