Los Angeles Lakers great Kobe Bryant and comedian Hasan Minhaj
When the late great Kobe Bryant passed away tragically in a helicopter crash, it left a deep void in the sporting world. But the Los Angeles Lakers great’s legacy was such that his death even spread to those who were not necessarily associated with sports. Even now, athletes and others refer to his ways and speak of him highly.
The late great NBA champion has often been referred to in areas other than sports. How he prioritized his family life, then his work in other ventures such as movies, business interests etc. have all had enough discussions. But never before was Kobe Bryant used as a reference in a comical environment.
Controversial comedian Hasan Minhaj was talking about how men do not read anymore while delivering on his Netflix special, Off With His Head. While trying to hit home the point that some men try to sound tough, he finished it off with a reference to the Los Angeles Lakers star.
This reference instantly drew a shocked reaction from the assembled audience, as they knew that referencing the late NBA champion‘s death in this way was a bit over the top. Minhaj swiftly moved on to another reference to not deter the mood, but it was enough to make the clip go viral.

The former league MVP has had multiple altercations with fans in several arenas. But as he said, he has been dealing with it for a while and sees it as a mark of respect. The fans feel they can unsettle the superstar with their taunts. There are times when he seemed as if he lost his cool.
But then, he also knows how to channel that into some terrific play on the court. The late Los Angeles Lakers superstar excelled at doing that. Westbrook is channeling whatever he can from the late great.
