Mikel Arteta‘s decision to ‘sacrifice’ Aaron Ramsdale for David Raya initially confused many. While fans opined that Ramsdale was up there with the best in terms of shot-stopping, others were excited to see how his decision would play out in the remainder of the season. As the Premier League season nears its close, David Raya has been awarded the Golden Glove for the 2023/24 season!
Arsenal are currently at the top of the League table with 80 points in 35 games. Despite City being just a point behind and with a game in hand, David Raya‘s contribution to his team being in top spot cannot be overlooked. The Spaniard has been a breath of fresh air in between the sticks for the Gunners.
The Arsenal No.22 has kept 14 clean sheets from 29 appearances while only conceding 23 goals in the process. The 28-year-old is on loan from Brentford and has played a huge role in Arsenal’s title charge this year.
Despite his impressive season, Mikel Arteta has refused to confirm that the club will make his deal a permanent one.
Fans react to David Raya being awarded the Premier League Golden Glove
As Aaron Ramsdale‘s name gets overshadowed by David Raya winning the Premier League Golden Glove, fans had their say on the same. A supporter commented that Raya winning the glove put an end to all the criticism that Mikel Arteta got when he benched Ramsdale mid-season. The fan opined that Raya’s case was the best example of trusting the process.
A fan said that he was the most deserving candidate for the award among all the other keepers in the League. One supporter joked that Andre Onana was robbed of the award.
While fans were happy for Raya, rival fans said that his efforts would go to waste when Arsenal bottle the League on the final matchday. Some were still confused as to how Raya won the award with 4 games to go!
Some said that him winning the accolade in his debut season with the Gunners was something to be proud of. A fan even compared him to Victor Valdes of FC Barcelona, citing the similarities in their ball-playing abilities. Another said that Aaron Ramsdale was surely out of the club with this result!
