ONE on TNT: Adriano Moraes knocks out Demetrious Johnson and retains his title

Adriano Moraes

The former UFC flyweight champion and number one pound-for-pound fighter Demetrious Johnson entered the ONE Championship cage to fight for the ONE Championship Flyweight title against Adriano Moraes.

Despite coming into the fight as a reigning ONE championship flyweight champion Moraes was a big underdog to ‘Mighty Mouse’ but this hardly mattered once the cage got locked. In the second round of the fight, Moraes caught Johnson with an uppercut followed by a huge knee that resulted in the first-ever stoppage loss of Demetrious Johnson’s legendary career.

The irony is that when Adriano Moraes hit him with the knee he was grounded and after the Petr Yan and Ajlamain Sterling controversy, ‘Mighty Mouse’ has been very vocal about legalizing these grounded knees and he eats one of those from Moraes.

Adriano Moraes was on the ninth cloud after this win, he says, “This is a dream come true, I’m really working hard every single day. I don’t have the words to describe this moment. We did it. I grew up watching DJ fighting. He’s a legend.”

“I knew exactly his game. Me and my team did the perfect strategy to fight against him. I got to him with a good uppercut. I’m so excited. It’s not a surprise for me. I’m working with the best guys in the world. Today worked out.”

The absolute legend of the game ‘Mighty Mouse’ faced the first-ever stoppage loss of his career and that too by a knockout left him absolutely devastated while stepping outside the cage.

After the fight, Demetrious Johnson says, “I’ve got to go back home and look at the fight to see where I made the mistakes, He’s very long, big, I was trying to get to him but it’s part of the game. You’re in the game so long, it’s bound to happen one of these days.”

He also vows to come back even stronger with his tweet which says, “All good everyone back in the hotel. watch the fight. shitty day in the office. congratz to Adriano Moraes we will be back.”
