Richard Childress Racing was over the moon when their No:3 Chevy driver Austin Dillon won the Richmond Cup race, amidst their poor season, securing a place in the playoff that comes with over $2 million addition reward. But the celebration didn’t last long after NASCAR striped his playoff berth because of the egregious wreck on the last corner.
Austin Dillon won the race by taking out race leaders Joey Logano and Denny Hamlin on the last corner on overtime. Following the verdict, RCR released a statement sharing the disappointment with the ruling and confirmed that they will be appealing against the decision by the sanctioning body that set a new precedent.
Richard Childress Racing is very disappointed in NASCAR’s penalty against the No. 3 team. We do not agree with the decision that was made and plan to appeal.

Denny Hamlin, who was one of the victims of the blatant wreck and someone who has demanded harsh action from NASCAR against Dillon, responded to the statement. He reminded the team that they aren’t as disappointed as he was about the ruling, as he was right hooked just before the finish line.
Not as disappointed as I was off turn 4.Denny Hamlin replied.

EX-RCR driver Jeff Burton gives his verdict on the ruling
Despite being a former driver for the team, Jeff Burton agrees with the claims made by NASCAR. He asserted that it is a massive decision. He reckons the current situation of the sport demands such ruling and the sport has put-themselves in situation where aggression is often rewards with no actual line being drown.
This is a massive decision. It just is. And this system puts drivers in the position to do things like this. It puts them in the situation where they have to do things that they’re uncomfortable with. And so then, that requires NASCAR to police it. And it requires them, in my eyes, in a way more than ever in the history of the sport, to draw the lines.Jeff Burton said.
Austin Dillon and RCR has found themselves in an unfamiliar territory, where the best result they would get is to keep the race win. The majority in the NASCAR community doesn’t even think giving the No:3 team the win is right, hence the team has not much to argue about.
