NASCAR made one of the most anticipated announcements in the Chase-era, as they announced the return of the championship finale to Homestead Miamin in 2026. Then from 2027, there will be a rotation of the finale venue between selected track. Joe Gibbs Racing veteran Denny Hamlin, who has been calling for this change for many years recently gave his verdict on the announcement.
In the lates episode of the Actions Detrimental podcast, that featured two times Champion Kyle Busch, he shares his thoughts. The ex-JGR driver was featured in the add announcing the changing alongside RFK Racing’s Brad Keselowski. Denny Hamlin is glad the change is happening despite the fact that, the track has spent significant sum of money to make the track facilities better.
I’m glad to see it back at Homestead. Phoenix is a great venue the way they upgraded the facilities. The fan interaction, the fan zone in there is fantastic. They spent money on the facility to upgrade and make it up to Championship standards.
Denny Hamlin said via Actions Detrimental.
The fans have also never disappointed the series, as they often show up full house regardless of it’s the finale or a regular season race. It was one of the main reasons behind NMASCAR’s decision to stay at the track for many years, amidst the criticism. Phoenix deserved the finale slot, but it’s time for a change and there is not better place for a restart than Miami.
The town always supports us, and it’s always crowded, doesn’t matter if it’s spring or the fall Championship race. Phoenix fans show out for us, which is why they deserved to have the Championship race for so long.
Denny Hamlin added.
Chase Elliott gives advice on Championship finale rotation
NASCAR most famous driver at the moment, the 2020 Cup winner Chase Elliott is one of the many stars drivers that is rejoicing the change. After the Kansas Cup race, he was asked about the recent announcement about the rotation, which was the plan when NASCAR adopted the new chase system initially and gave them some advice about how to handle the situation.

The Hendrick Motorsports driver highlighted that NASCAR at the moment has an open box situation in front of them and they have the opportunity to choose the right tracks that will yield long-terms rewards. The decisions shouldn’t be just based on emotions but should also enough research is made, which ensures the crowning of the champion moment isn’t soiled.
I think at the end of the day they (NASCAR) kind of have an open box on whatever they want to do. And we have enough of a sample size with the car for the last few years that I think we should be able to make a very educated decision on what would be the most entertaining from a fan perspective and also the most rewarding to make sure you’re crowning a champion.
Chase Elliott told Frontstretch.com.
The comments from the HMS veteran are on point and NASCAR should take some notes, if they are approaching the rotation in a different perspective. They now have the opportunity make the Cup championship more credible and it would be interesting to see how the sanctioning body is going to approach the situation.
