The reenactment of a haunting memory has ticked Deshaun Watson off. Two years after he was booed off the pitch at Huntington Park, the home of the Cleveland Browns, Watson faced the same treatment again on Saturday during the team’s second exhibition game against the Buffalo Bills.
At the postgame press conference, Watson sounded off on the Browns fans’ attitude toward him.
I feel like I get more love on road games than I do home games. So if it is my spot and he does make me the name, maybe it’s 17 away games then. I don’t know.

Watson’s tenure in Cleveland has been eventful for all the wrong reasons. The Browns gave up a king’s ransom to acquire the Pro Bowl signal-caller from the Houston Texans. First-round picks, players, and, on top of it, the franchise signed him to a mammoth, fully guaranteed $230 million contract.

DESHAUN WATSON WENT OFF ON #BROWNS FANS, SAYING THAT FANS ON THE ROAD CHEER FOR HIM MORE.

One would expect Watson to be the best quarterback in football to have earned such a deal. Sure, he was great at Clemson and had a few years with the Texans, but the wheels fell off once he reached Cleveland.
Watson found himself in an uphill legal battle after multiple women accused him of making inappropriate advances. The Browns knew what they were getting into, and it only got worse when the NFL suspended him for 11 games in 2022.
Then came the injury issues. Six games into his second year, Watson suffered a displaced fracture to the glenoid in his right shoulder that ruled him out for the rest of the year. Watson’s game took a big hit, and he started the following season with just one win in seven games before tearing his ACL. Despite grimacing in excruciating pain, Watson wasn’t spared from hearing boos raining down from the bleachers at Dawgpound.
Last time I played on this field, I tore my Achilles. And that same fanbase cheered when I got hurt. What does that have to do with anything about performance?

His rehab was going really well until news broke that he had suffered a second ACL injury while on vacation with his wife. He would go on to miss the entire 2025 season.
Deshaun Watson squandered a good opportunity to take an edge in the Browns quarterback battle
Watson had a great chance to pop off against the Buffalo Bills on Saturday. However, the 2017 first-round pick completed 5 of his 12 passes for 36 yards and threw an interception. The Browns lost 31-7.

It was the Browns’ second straight preseason defeat after kicking off their year with a loss against the Chicago Bears last week. Watson had 11 completions for 126 yards and was sacked once.

Watson has been locked in a quarterback battle with second-year Shedeur Sanders. Unfortunately, with Sanders conceding interceptions in both friendlies, it’s safe to say that the QB battle is a stalemate.
While Watson continued his rehab, the Browns re-signed veteran Joe Flacco and drafted two rookies: Dillon Gabriel in the third round and Shedeur Sanders in the fifth round. Flacco was traded to Cincinnati midway through the year, and Gabriel failed to impress the demanding Browns crowd with his lackluster performances.
Sanders stepped in and threw a few highlight-reel passes. But even the former Colorado man, the son of HOF Deion Sanders, could not save the Browns from finishing at the bottom of the AFC North.
Sanders finished his rookie year with a 3-4 record. He completed 120 passes for 1400 yards and threw 7 touchdowns.
