NFL coaches, executives, and scouts voted Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen as the best quarterback heading into the 2026 season. They voted based on last season’s performance.

Deshaun Watson’s personal quarterback coach, Quincy Avery, questioned the list.

No hate but what has Josh Allen done for everybody to have him as the best QB in the league?

Quincy Avery tweeted

ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler published the list earlier in the week. In the piece, Fowler explained the reason behind Allen’s ascension, displacing Patrick Mahomes, who was number one the previous three years.

Allen took advantage of the composite voting, averaging a ranking of 2.10 per ballot. That helped him overcome his 34.1% first-place clip, slightly below Mahomes’ 41.5%.

Fowler wrote

Allen led the Bills to a 12-5 season. He completed a career-high 69.3% of his passes for 3668 yards, 25 touchdowns and 10 interceptions. He further added 14 touchdowns on the ground.

Allen’s pass completion rate shot up to 71.6% in the playoffs. The Bills knocked out the Jacksonville Jaguars in the wild-card round. In the divisional playoff game, he threw three touchdowns and a couple of picks. It resulted in a narrow 33-30 defeat. Once again, he failed to deliver a Super Bowl berth to the Bills.

The Bills’ best receiver was Khalil Shakir, who caught 95 passes for 719 yards and scored 4 touchdowns in 16 games. Tight end Dalton Kincaid placed second with just 39 receptions for 571 yards and 4 touchdowns.

The Bills sorted their WR1 conundrum in the offseason. They signed former Panthers and Bears starter DJ Moore. Moore has 131 games, 608 catches, 8213 yards, and 41 touchdowns under his belt.

As for Deshaun Watson, the veteran signal-caller could lead the Cleveland Browns in 2026. Watson has missed nearly twenty months of football due to multiple Achilles injuries. He returned to the Browns’ offseason practice and went toe-to-toe with Shedeur Sanders. However, he must beat out Sanders in the July camp to earn the right to start for the Browns.

Josh Allen revealed his post-retirement plans

Allen was born in a Californian family that owns a multi-thousand-acre farm. Many thought he would take over the family business after retirement. He has earned plenty of green from his NFL salary, so he wouldn’t need to worry about money.

Allen has given post-retirement life serious thought. The husband of Hollywood actor Hailee Steinfeld could give broadcasting a whirl once he walks away from active football.

I do think it would be cool if you [could] keep it from a strictly broadcasting angle… When players go from players to journalists and say certain things that they hated people saying about them, I think that’s where it gets a little murky for me … But I do think that it would be something I would entertain.

Josh Allen told CNBC

He’s only 30 and could easily play through the next decade. Allen has a league MVP, All-Pro, and Pro Bowls in the bag; the only thing that matters now is winning a Super Bowl. According to FOX Sports metrics, the Bills are the third favourites (+1000) to win the Super Bowl in SoFi Stadium next February.
