In the upcoming UFC pay-per-view event, one of the most promising strawweight fighters will compete for the championship. Undefeated American fighter Tatiana Suarez is set to face the reigning 155-pound champion Zhang Weili at UFC 312. However, before this matchup, there are several intriguing aspects of Suarez’s journey to the UFC worth exploring.
Tatiana Suarez was born in California, USA, but she has a Mexican heritage. From a young age, she showed a strong interest in wrestling. During her college years, she achieved several accolades and championship victories in the sport. Notably, in 2011, Suarez was ranked as the number one freestyle wrestler in the country in the 121-pound weight class.
Due to her exceptional talent in the sport, Suarez was close to realizing her dreams of competing in the Olympic Games. However, one of the darkest chapters of the California-born fighter’s life unfolded when she suffered a neck injury at the age of 21 while training for the 2012 London Olympic Games. Unfortunately, the scans revealed a serious and potentially fatal condition affecting Suarez.
Suarez was diagnosed with thyroid cancer and underwent radiation therapy, as well as the removal of her thyroid and several lymph nodes. Fortunately, after a successful operation, the California-born fighter survived the illness. Following her recovery, she transitioned into MMA and began training in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. Now, years later, Suarez actively competes in the top MMA promotion, the UFC.

After overcoming numerous adversities, Tatiana Suarez has made it to the UFC. Since her promotional debut in 2016, Suarez has remained undefeated in the UFC. Along the way, she has even built a formidable reputation for herself. As a result, she will compete against Zhang Weili at UFC 312. However, just before this significant moment, a shocking revelation stirred the UFC community.
The weigh-in program for UFC 312 was intended to be a fun introduction to the forthcoming event. However, an uncomfortable incident nearly sparked a wave of controversy for Daniel Cormier. During their typical banter, the panel consisting of DC, Jon Anik, and Michael Bisping encountered an unexpected phrase that appeared on Cormier’s screen.

As of now, Suarez has not yet shared her reaction, as she is about to face her first UFC title opportunity in just a few hours. Interestingly, the California-born fighter is regarded as the favorite to dethrone the Chinese champion from the strawweight title. However, it remains to be seen how the matchup will unfold in the co-main event of UFC 312.
