Kevin Durant and Mat Ishbia were involved in a back-and-forth on social media. After their exchange, Dillon Brooks decided to weigh in on the drama.
It began when the Suns owner claimed that bringing star players like Durant doesn’t necessarily guarantee championships. Durant spent two and a half seasons in Phoenix. While they had championship aspirations, things did not work out well in the end.
Durant responded to Ishbia’s comments and did not hold back against his former owner on X. He even added, “Mathews acts like I got DUI or something,’ reflecting on Brooks being punished with DUI [driving under influence].
Brooks was one of the players who moved to the Suns after Durant was traded to the Houston Rockets. With the Suns hitting the reset button, many expected them to be a lottery team next season. However, Brooks transformed the team and had his best individual campaign, which led them to the playoffs last season.
After Durant’s remarks, Brooks quickly reacted on his Instagram story.
Thanks Mat for cleaning up that stench in the locker room before I came #culture.

Brooks has often been labeled as a “villain” in the NBA. Known for being an instigator and a trash-talker, Brooks and Durant had some heated exchanges on the court last season. While the two-time champion shrugged it off, the Suns star clearly tried to get under his skin.
The Suns may not be title contenders heading into the new season, but theyare moving in the right direction. It is a welcome sign for them after their big 3 experiment of Durant, Devin Booker, and Bradley Beal ended in failure. The disappointing stint saw Durant leave the organization on sour terms.
NBA fans react to Dillon Brooks igniting beef with Kevin Durant about Suns’ culture
Dillon Brooks is one player who never shies away from drama. Hence, it was not surprising to see the former second-round pick take a subtle shot at Durant on social media.
After thanking Ishbia for changing the Suns’ culture on Instagram, his statements generated several reactions across social media.

Brooks’ message saw mixed reactions from the fans. Some found it hilarious and were already anticipating the next meeting between the two, while others called him a “rage-baiter” and called him out for it.
Mat Ishbia admits trading for Kevin Durant was a mistake
One of the main reasons for the exchange between Kevin Durant and Mat Ishbia was that the billionaire revealed it was a mistake to add superstars like Durant without thinking about whether they fit the team’s identity. The Suns acquired Bradley Beal as well, but since Ishbia mentioned only Durant, it rubbed the former MVP the wrong way.

In a recent CNBC interview, Ishbia recalled his decisions after buying the team in 2023.
I kind of just threw money at the problem. Bringing in super talented players like Durant doesn’t necessarily lead to titles. You gotta find guys and people that are aligned with the vision that we are going. Whether it’s Durant or not, it’s all about the type of players that we have and now we’ve defined it and now we only get those type of players.
