“Does any team cry more than the 49ers?” – Pro-Bowler Donte Whitner’s claim suggesting the Super Bowl was biased in the favor of the Kansas City Chiefs irks fans

Time heals everything. It has been two months since Super Bowl LVIII concluded and the Kansas City Chiefs beat the San Francisco 49ers fair and square in the biggest game on the biggest stage, yet this quote does not seem to be applicable to fans of the latter team.

A small part of the 49ers fanbase continues to firmly believe their team was wronged in the Super Bowl, by whom you ask? The officiating crew.

Donte Whitner, 3x Pro Bowler and former safety for the Cleveland Browns and the San Francisco 49ers forms a part of that minority percentage of the team’s fanbase. He recently appeared on the Up & Adams show with Kay Adams. He did not hold back and revealed his team failed to get key calls from the crew and that ultimately resulted in their downfall.

When we think about the Super Bowl, well, I think the 49ers played against the refs as well. When we look at that film and see bear hugs on those defensive ends right, and you really see it in blatant moments in the game. The 49ers played against Taylor Swift, the refs, and the Kansas City Chiefs, all three.

Looks like Taylor Swift caught a stray there. It seems bizarre to mention her name since she was not actually present on the field playing against the 49ers. It is normal for fans to blame the referees after their team loses, while there may be some merit to these claims, it should be noted that when compared to regular season games and other playoff games, the number of bad calls that happen in the Super Bowl are significantly lesser.

Fans on social media called Whitner out and pointed out that his reaction accurately sums up the response of the entire 49ers fanbase. Here’s how they reacted to his claims via X:

It’s a shame indeed, ironic how the word whiner rhymes with the word niner…

Well, when it comes to football, 15 > 49.

Kay Adams, who herself is a fan of the San Francisco 49ers, could not help but continuously laugh over Whitner blaming the referees. In all honesty, it happens to the best of us. This year, the Kansas City Chiefs ended up having more haters than compared to previous years, and when you root for a team but end up disappointed, the pain you feel is real. Better luck next time, Donte Whitner.
