Is there anything Drew McIntyre would like to undo from his WWE career? Probably yes. Turning the clock back to 2020, a period when COVID traumatized human existence, pro wrestling didn’t stop. In fact, Drew was the torchbearer of that era of WWE, carrying the company through those unforgiving times as the world champion. He dropped the title to Randy Orton inside Hell in a Cell.
It was during the course of this match that McIntyre had a gnarly fall off the cell, hitting the commentary desk with a thud. Speaking to Sports Illustrated, the Scotsman said he thought he actually broke his neck or something in his back upon striking the ground. A bruised McIntyre even spat blood that the fans could notice on their TV screens.
Noting it was the worst fall of his life, Drew said that was a spot he would’ve had deleted from his career had it been possible. The 39-year-old brought up Seth Rollins during the conversation, who told the Scot the same thing as Seth himself had been on the receiving end of it in 2014.
This Saturday at Bad Blood, the former 3MB member will step inside that sadistic 20-foot-tall structure once again. He’d be up against CM Punk. The two men have been beefing since January, and the feud is set to conclude. This is going to be the last match of their trilogy that is currently tied at 1-1.
Whoever manages to come out on top inside Hell in a Cell will have the last laugh. Punk has already promised to make Drew bleed. On the other hand, McIntyre’s busy taking shots at the Chicagoan’s dog, Larry.
Where would Drew McIntyre and CM Punk go next after they’re done with each other?
All signs tell that Drew McIntyre will be done with CM Punk and vice-versa after Bad Blood. So what’s next for both of them? As for Punk, WWE has seemingly lined him up for a world title showdown against Gunther at Survivor Series in Vancouver.
That makes one wonder if he’s going to beat McIntyre in their highly-anticipated HIAC bout. Even if Drew does succumb to the Second City Saint, he could move on to other things in WWE.
McIntyre told SI in the aforementioned interview that he’s already conveyed the word to WWE’s creative department that they won’t be able to come up with anything like the Punk feud for a long time.
The Scottish Warrior said that despite legitimate hatred for the ex-AEW star, they went on to have a memorable rivalry. It’d be looked back on for the years to come.
