The UFC lightweight division continues to be the most exciting and stacked weight class on the roster. It’s packed with elite fighters, all hungry for a shot at each other whenever the opportunity arises. The race for the UFC gold is fierce, intensifying old rivalries like the one between Dustin Poirier and Dan Hooker. Is this Poirier’s last fight that he has teased?

After his loss to Islam Makhachev at UFC 302, Dustin Poirier wanted to retire from the sport but ended up reconsidering. Now, the American fighter is eager to get back inside the octagon and has some options. Among them, his former rival Dan Hooker is also ready to lock horns with the ’Diamond’ for the second time. However, Poirier doesn’t think that’s a good idea for the ‘Hangman.’

During the pandemic, the two faced off in the UFC Apex. Following five rounds of violent combat, the ‘Diamond’ won by unanimous decision. The fight featured nonstop, fast-paced combat and vicious exchanges. Furthermore, the two rivals demonstrated incredible toughness throughout the five grueling rounds, making the bout unforgettable.

Hooker is presently ranked fifth in the division and on a three-fight winning streak. He recently called out Conor McGregor for a potential bout, but the Kiwi fighter has options. Justin Gaethje and Rafael Fiziev are possible matchups for Hooker. However, for Poirier, it is difficult to say anything given the number of alternative options the Louisiana native has.

Dustin Poirier wants a trilogy fight with Justin Gaethje?

Dustin Poirier is undoubtedly one of the biggest superstars on the UFC roster. Despite his age, the American fighter in his last fight showed that he was a danger to other lightweights. DP has previously talked about potentially fighting Conor McGregor in a quadrilogy. Other than the Irishman, there is another name.

Justin Gaethje and Dustin Poirier have had two amazing bouts in the octagon, with Gaethje winning the most recent one. The total score is equal, and DP recently hinted at a tiebreaker. Though it wasn’t a clear call-out, many believe it’s the only obvious possibility, given his most recent post.

Justin Gaethje has not spoken about fighting since his devastating loss at UFC 300. The loss prevented him from pursuing a title shot and allowed DP to come in. Gaethje has clarified that he will retire if he gets knocked out again. It would be fascinating to see if this is the case in the future if he fights with Poirier.
