Islam Makhachev and Dustin Poirier‘s fight at UFC 302 recently title fight had everybody chip in with their opinion. Similarly, Arman Tsarukyan posed an interesting observation in a recent video he sent out on the internet. He questioned ‘The Diamond’s resolve in what could be his last ever title fight which got Mateusz Gamrot commenting under the video.
Arman Tsarukyan had made a video talking about Islam Makhachev and Dustin Poirier’s fight. He opined that Poirier gave up in the most important fight in his life. The internet saw UFC lightweight Mateusz Gamrot comment under the video of Tsarukyan.

So what did Arman Tsarukyan say that made Mateusz Gamrot comment profanities? Tsarukyan said that Makhachev does not breathe that well in five-round fights. He observed that the lightweight champion was already giving away endings in what was his second five-round fight. Thus, Tsarukyan wondered where the Dagestani found the strength to choke out ‘The Diamond’. Tsarukyan speculated that Poirier just gave up in terms of being mentally broken.
But why would Gamrot defend the lightweight veteran? Gamrot trains out of American Top Team (ATT) in Florida. Dustin Poirier also trains at the American Top Team. ‘Gamer’ had previously stated publicly that he would not wish to face ‘The Diamond’ in the octagon unless it were a title fight.
Arman Tsarukyan and Mateusz Gamrot’s rivalry
Arman Tsarukyan and Mateusz Gamrot clashed in the octagon in 2022 as part of UFC on ESPN 38. It was a closely contested fight that ended in unanimous decision in favour of Gamrot. Islam Makhachev and Mateusz Gamrot are the only two fighters to have defeated Tsarukyan in the UFC.

Both fighters are rising stars in the lightweight division with a similar track record. The decision was somewhat controversial. Many fans and analysts felt the fight was extremely close and could have gone either way. Both fighters have expressed interest in a potential rematch in the future.
However, as of now Tsarukyan is the #1 contender for the lightweight title. With Makhachev successfully defeating Dustin Poirier, he is the next likely contender for the title showdown. Meanwhile, #5 ranking Gamrot recently defeated Rafael dos Anjos at UFC 299. Although unlikely for a while, it will be interesting to see these two top lightweights engage in decisive showdown for a final time in the octagon.
