Dwayne Johnson might be ready to gear up and enter the MMA octagon for his upcoming Hollywood venture. Recently, the WWE superstar was an integral part of WrestleMania 40 and gave fans an incredible show. Now, Johnson has revealed that he’s going to start training MMA-based workouts soon.
In a video he shared on his Instagram account, Dwayne Johnson discussed his experience at WrestleMania and how he is preparing for his upcoming film. The ‘Rock’ talked about his objectives for his MMA training and how difficult it will be for him. He also credited Mark Kerr, who he will play in the movie.
With WrestleMania behind me, my second training camp of 2024 begins tomorrow for my next role in a film titled The Smashing Machine. My body’s banged up from Mania, but no injuries and feeling great - ready to go. Starting my MMA workouts tomorrow. I’m coming into this in pretty good conditioning and cardio shape, but MMA is a different animal. And Mark Kerr was a ‘one of one’ monsterDwayne Johnson via Instagram
Mark Kerr is a former NCAA Division I champion who transitioned into a successful career in UFC and PRIDE FC. In his prime, he was unstoppable and extremely popular. However, the fighter struggled with addiction to steroids and depression. This cost him several fights and nearly his life.
Back in 2019, Johnson made public his intention to take the lead role in The Kerr biopic. Despite the gradual progress, the project is now nearing the filming stage. It is going to be produced by the independent film company A24, known for works like Civil War, Midsommar, etc. Renowned director Benny Safdie has taken the project and it also has other superstars such as Emily Blunt. It would be interesting to see if Johnson can utilize his training to justify the role of the MMA legend.
Dwayne Johnson talks about training with Joe Rogan
Recently, Dwayne Johnson appeared on the popular podcast, The Joe Rogan Experience. The visit came as a bit of a shock given that Joe Rogan had previously accused Johnson of steroid abuse. Johnson, however, has accepted that he took steroids early in his career but declared to be clean lately.
Despite their past, both had a great podcast and during the conversation, Johnson talked about their training session together.
That was a blast. Dude that was three hours. You and me, we had a f***** banging workout. Then we did the sauna, we did the cold plunge, we did the whole experienceDwayane Johnson via JRE
Rogan and Johnson are known for their fitness irrespective of their age. Both always talk about the importance of training on their social media platforms. With Johnson’s movie coming up, it might be a session where he took some inputs about MMA from Rogan.
