With the introduction of the Valorant Challengers Ascensions in 2022, the opportunity was given to un-franchised regional teams a shot to get the franchising spot. This was taken by The Guard, who had won the Valorant Challengers Ascensions 2023 event. However, the opportunity this presented them to participate in the VCT Americas League 2024 has been voided. Riot Games have made their decision and the community is buzzing over the news.

America’s Valorant Players Association calls out Riot Games

VCT Americas

After Riot Games had mentioned that the Guard would no longer participate, The Americas Valorant Players Association called out both Riot Games and NA org The Guard. They took to Twitter to release a statement from their Executive Council. The association aims to involve players or a third-party organization to honor Riot’s commitment to expanding VCT.

They said, “The Guard and Riot both acted without consulting the players or the PA ahead of time. This kind of sudden change is harmful and will result in lost jobs and lost value for their hard work to earn a promotion.”. They are sharing their disappointment and frustration with Riot Games and The Guard. Due to them not consulting their players ahead of time, they have made a huge blunder.

This news has fans restored in faith, as a solution is keen on being made. Others have suggested that the players go on strike. Nonetheless, AVPA’s call for fairness represents the community’s outlook on players. It reminds everyone that players’ voices should be heard and respected in the decision-making process. Some Valorant orgs like Disguised and Moist have shown their interest in signing these players but time will tell what the future holds for these bright young eSports athletes.
