Elden Ring, the action role-playing game developed by FromSoftware and published by Bandai Namco, has reached a significant milestone by selling over 20 million copies worldwide, according to the latest sales numbers from Bandai Namco’s financial briefing. The game was released on February 25, 2022, and quickly became one of the most highly anticipated games of the year, due in large part to its development by Hidetaka Miyazaki, the creator of the Dark Souls series. Elden Ring also received critical acclaim for its immersive open world, fast-paced combat, and intricate storytelling.
Despite its difficult gameplay, Elden Ring managed to attract a large and dedicated fan base, which helped the game sell beyond expectations. It quickly rose in popularity, outselling many other big-name titles of 2022, including God of War Ragnarok, Horizon Forbidden West, FIFA 23, and Pokemon Scarlet & Violet. In fact, it was the second-best-selling game of 2022, with only Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 selling more copies.

Elden Ring and Bandai Namco’s financial success
Bandai Namco’s strong financial results for the last fiscal year, which ended on March 31, 2023, were largely due to the success of Elden Ring. The company posted an 11 percent jump in revenue, hitting $7.3 billion. The publisher is also forecasting net sales of $7.4 billion for the fiscal year ending on March 31, 2024.
Bandai Namco’s financial briefing states that they expect a pullback in repeat sales, which made a particularly large contribution to the previous year’s success. However, the publisher is already preparing for future releases, including Armored Core 6: Fires of Rubicon, a new Naruto title, and a new Tekken game.
With Elden Ring’s Shadow of the Erdtree DLC expected to launch soon, the game’s sales are likely to continue to rise. The DLC promises to add new content, features, and challenges to the already popular game, making it an exciting prospect for existing and new players alike.
Elden Ring’s impressive sales numbers demonstrate the power of a well-made game that appeals to a passionate fan base. FromSoftware and Bandai Namco’s success with Elden Ring has put them on the map as major players in the gaming industry, and fans can’t wait to see what they have in store for the future.
