Microsoft announced in 2022 that it’ll acquire Activision Blizzard King, or ABK, with a massive deal. However, Microsoft encountered several governmental and legal barriers during its acquisition process. It was a struggle for Microsoft, starting with the UK CMA’s rejection and ending with the well-known court case against the FTC. Moreover, during the hearing, Microsoft revealed a lot of insider information regarding Xbox’s future plans, too. The court unintentionally leaked the unredacted document from Microsoft, exposing all of Xbox’s future plans to the public eye.

Furthermore, after the website hosting the case hearings became public, it released the entire case file, including all of this material, online. And Microsoft did not redact the Xbox future plan’s road map, thus creating a massive leak of insider information. Additionally, FTC is now holding Microsoft responsible for this leak. On the other hand, fans are really happy with this leak. This leak contains some really ambitious future projects Mircosoft is working on for Xbox.

Top Microsoft future plan for Xbox revealed in the document leak

The case file document of Microsoft vs FTC released by Microsoft and accidentally publicised by the court has brought a lot of attention over the internet. The document contains loads of information about how Xbox’s future is going to be. Furthermore, the sheer volume of changes coming to Xbox has overwhelmed gamers. With all these big changes, Xbox’s future is looking really impressive.

After announcing Starfield as an Xbox exclusive, the console had already garnered attention. Furthermore, with the massive success of Starfield in the gaming community, all eyes were already on Xbox. And now, with this leak, the console’s popularity has shot through the roof. Some of the massive future plans revealed for Xbox that Microsoft has in mind are further listed below!

BROOKLIN: Xbox Series X Refresh

The leaked document claims that Microsoft will release the Series X Refresh console, code-named “Brooklin.” It would have a Wi-Fi 6E connection, decreased power consumption, twice the internal storage at 2TB, and other technological advancements. Unlike the bulky original Series X, this iteration will be cylindrical in shape.

It’s important to note that Microsoft intends to remove the console’s disc drive, and it’s unclear at this time if an external disc drive will be offered. If Xbox stopped including a disc drive as standard, that would be a big change and might hasten the demise of physical game discs. The new Series X will cost $499, the same as the existing system, according to Microsoft. The Series S Refresh is now anticipated to be on sale in August or September 2024, priced at $299. Furthermore, the Series X Refresh will follow a few months later.

SEBILE: New Xbox Controller

According to the unredacted document, Microsoft also intends to deliver an upgraded Xbox controller in 2024. The controller, code-named “Sebile,” is said to include “precision haptic feedback,” quieter inputs, and modular thumbsticks like certain high-end controllers. According to reports, “seamless” pairing and device switching are supported with the aid of new mobile app capabilities.

Interestingly, a doc page mentions a “direct-to-cloud” function. This means that Microsoft is concentrating on lowering input latency for games streaming from the cloud. This can be quite similar to Google with the Stadia Controller (RIP). Furthermore, the documents state that Sebile will come in May 2024. This controller is definitely a massive upgrade for Xbox. Considering how well Dualsense does on the market, Xbox controllers were in dire need of a push-up the chart. And this upcoming controller may as well do that!

Xbox Next-Gen Console

And here comes the massive leak regarding a new next-gen console. This can be a real dealbreaker for Microsoft against its competitor, Sony’s PlayStation. The next-gen console is stated to be making its way to the market around 2028.

Buying Nintendo

Phil Spencer, the CEO of Microsoft Gaming, believes a massive purchase is inevitable. In a 2020 internal email discussing acquisition prospects, Spencer hinted that he thought of Nintendo as the firm’s “white whale” and that he is personally invested in Microsoft’s potential purchase of the company. He considered that to be a possible “career moment,” according to the email.

Other potential acquisition targets, such as another extremely ambitious one in Valve, are hinted at in the documents. Spencer stated that his team was in contact with ZeniMax Media, the parent company of Bethesda, and Warner Bros. Interactive in case of potential acquisitions. However, it’s not possible for Microsoft to go for any deal right now, considering the Activision Blizzard King deal is yet to go through. So, the community may not see any multi-billion dollar deal anytime soon!

Planned Upcoming Games

With future devices and electronics done, the documents now move on to future game projects. Furthermore, the lineup for Xbox by Microsoft looks really fun and promising. Some of the OG games are stated to be coming back to the console, with Doom and a new Dishonored part in the fray. Apart from these, It seems like even Fallout 3 is receiving a revival from the company. After Bethesda’s acquisition, Xbox seems to be bringing loads of game titles from the studio back.

The document even mentions several other games like Oblivion Remaster and a Ghostwire: Tokyo sequel. These newer titles will be a good boost to Xbox and its popularity. Furthermore, with the successful release of Starfield, Xbox’s exclusive game, the console’s popularity is already through the roof.
