“Ninjas chopping onions again” – Fans get emotional as Bethesda honours a player suffering from Lung cancer after revealing he won’t be able to enjoy Starfield
Bethesda honor 36-year old Alex Hay who died to lung cancer, waiting for the release of Starfield.
Bethesda Games Studios has gone ahead and warmed the community after a tragedy. Since the announcement in 2018, the game Starfield has had fans on the edge with hype and excitement. Bethesda is also responsible for the development of renowned games like Fallout 4 and The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim.
Alex Hay, a 36-year-old fan of the game had unfortunately passed away a few months ago from lung cancer. He was a huge fan of the game and was awaiting the release of Starfield for a long time. Starfield is now available to fans after being released on September 6, 2023. However, it was a tad bit late as Alex Hay had already passed away by then.
The unfortunate news had shattered the community. The open world of RPGs had lost a prestigious fan to an unfortunate heath cancer. Despite having followed the game since its announcement, Alex was unable to see the game in broad daylight. This had caused Bethesda to honour Alex in Starfield by allowing users to read his message.

Bethesda honoured and immortalized Alex Hay with a Starfield in-game easter egg
Alex prior to his death had posted on Subreddit regarding the sad situation. He had just found out that the game was delayed to be released from November 2022 to September 2023. The unfortunate scenario would mean Alex would not be able to play Starfield as he wasn’t guaranteed to live till September.
He wrote on his Reddit, “Bit gutted at the date reveal as I’ve been following this project for years and now it looks like I won’t get to play it. Was disappointed with the delay from November as I’d stopped treatment for my lung cancer (aged 35, never smoked) in September and was looking forward to it as a distraction. Now I’m under palliative care being looked after by my parents and playing my Xbox is a great form of escapism for me but holding out another 6 months is unlikely so… enjoy it on my behalf!”
The developers of the game found out about this sad scenario. In order to pay tributes to such a sad demise, Bethesda included a note from Alex Hay that all players in Starfield can find on the Eye. The note reads “To all my friends and fellow explorers. I’m always with you, out there in the starfield. Love always, Alex Hay”. This heart-warming gesture had fans praising the gaming studios for its commendable act.”
