Biggest Fortnite reveal ever: The Epic Games BR is finally getting a Ranking system

The major takeaway from competitive games is the ranking system. Players play competitive games to rank up and be better than most of the player base. A well-implemented and defined ranking system is what leads to a competitive game’s success. Games like Call of Duty, CS: GO, Valorant, PUBG, etc., all have a well-defined ranking system. The competitive nature is something that has made these entries overly successful. Though another massively played multiplayer game developed by Epic Games, Fortnite does not have a ranking system for its competitive game mode like Battle Royale.

Fortnite is a free-to-play battle royale game developed by Epic Games. The unique mechanic of this game allows players to build structures and fight to be the last one standing. Fortnite’s player base is one of the largest in the multiplayer video game industry. It has over 350 million registered players, making it a massive success for Epic Games. Fortnite has many different game modes, from Battle Royale to no-building mode, to the creative mode, where players can create games or maps with any kind of settings of their choice.

Fortnite’s official Twitter handle teased a short video showcasing 8 different ranks. This announcement has left fans baffled. Players are speculating whether the developers will create an actual ranking system or simply revamp the current Leagues system in the Arena Game mode. If it’s indeed an actual ranking system, then this update would make it the biggest Fortnite update after turbo building. Players are eagerly waiting for this update to roll out so they can see if all the hype was worth it.

Arena mode is another game mode in Fortnite. This game mode does have a pseudo-ranked system, though. Players compete with those in the same league in the Arena mode. This mode is far from being an actual ranked mode. This mode integrates a special Hype meter that determines players’ Leagues. This is similar to the MMR system in Rainbow Six Siege or RR in Valorant. But after an announcement made on May 12, it seems Fortnite may finally receive a ranking system.

However, the lack of an actual ranking system has plagued Fortnite since the game’s release. Any competitive game with no ranking system or a poor one dies very easily. Though Fortnite averted that fate because of its unique game mechanics, features, and cosmetics, a lingering effect can still be observed. As of right now, we can only speculate that this new reveal is a new ranking system, not a revamp of the existing Arena mode.
