Genshin Impact reveals Al-Haitham and Yaoyao as playable characters for the 3.4 update
It seems that HoYoverse was waiting for The Game Awards 2022 to conclude so that they can drop a surprise for their Travelers. The ‘surprise’ was the drip marketing for the characters becoming playable in the 3.4 update which is scheduled to release in the game next year.
Initially showcasing Yaoyao at the concluding part of Genshin Impact entry video at The Game Awards 2022, HoYoverse raised eyebrows of their players. While it was a hint that Yaoyao will soon join the game, players wanted an extra confirmation. Fortunately, it came with the drip marketing for the 3.4 update.
Al-Haitham and Yaoyao were revealed as the playable characters for the upcoming patch which belong to the 5-star and 4-star rarities respectively. Both of them belong to the Dendro unit, the element which has recently been introduced in the game.
While these characters will become playable in the next patch, they have previously been teased by the developers. Yaoyao is a close acquaintance of Cryo character Qiqi who has appeared in several official posters whereas Al-Haitham was introduced during the Sumeru promotional video along with Dehya, Nilou and others.

When will Al-Haitham and Yaoyao in Genshin Impact become playable?
Unlike the previous patches of Sumeru, we currently don’t have an official release date for the Genshin Impact 3.4 update but observing the previous release patterns and taking into account that the latest update was released on 7th December, version 3.4 could be added in the game on January 17th-18th by latest.
This date could be tweaked if the developers decide to restore the original patch duration (42 days) with the ongoing one (35 days). While Al-Haitham and Yaoyao have been confirmed, some previous leaks coming from notable leakers suggest that Hu Tao could be making a rerun in the game in 3.4 update.

The 5-star Pro character is most likely to appear, given that she has gone more than a year without banners in Genshin Impact. Other strong contenders for rerun banners are Yelan and Eula. Yelan is the most compatible character for Hu Tao, whereas Eula has not received her banner for a long time.
Apart from banners, there have been rumors of Lisa and Ayaka getting new skins in the game with different rarities. An alternate outfit for characters is always a welcome addition in the community, as players were last able to get outfits for Diluc and Fischl, in the 2.8 update which became quite popular.
