“Just mute them”: HasanAbi gets a rude awakening in his 2nd Valorant Competitive game

Multiplayer games are infamous for the number of toxic players one can come across when joining a game in ranked or competitive matchmaking. Valorant is no exception to this grim reality.

HasanAbi got acclimated to this fact in quite a hands-on way when he encountered such teammates in his 2nd ever game of competitive Valorant. This happened when Hasan was playing Valorant with Valkyrae “back-seating” her on a recent stream.

HasanAbi receives slurs after telling he’s new to the game

HasanAbi was trying to learn the age of Valorant recently, streaming the game on his channel with 100Thieves co-owner Valkyrae accompanying him and giving him tips on how to play the 5v5 FPS. Hasan tried getting into ranked matches as soon as he could instead of sharpening his skills in some casual game first.

In just his second game, HasanAbi gave a prior heads-up to his teammates that he was new to the game. He was immediately called a homophobic slur, and the same man exclaimed that he would be “dodging”, a term used to describe leaving a game to avoid being teammates with someone.

HasanAbi turned towards Valkyrae for help, thinking the toxic player would try to intentionally lose. Valkyrae helped him by giving him the best tip for anyone when faced with such players-

"You just mute them."

She explained to Hasan that he won’t be throwing the game, advising him to let that person dodge else he would be forced to play out the whole match with them. As expected, the game didn’t proceed as someone, probably the person who Hasan encountered, left the game preemptively.

Valkyrae gave HasanAbi further advice on dealing with such encounters, telling him that he doesn’t need to confess the fact that he’s new to the game. “What is compelling you to say it? … You’re playing with people that are your rank. They’re not good either.” she added.
