“Why do Twitch hate black people?”: Twitch accused of racism as Streamer of the Year Kai Cenat gets banned from the platform
Kai Cenat's ban has sparked suspicions of racial motives on Twitch's part.
Kai Cenat's Ban
American internet personality and Twitch superstar, Kai Cenat was banned from the streaming platform, Twitch for reasons that remain undisclosed as of yet. Kai was one of Twitch’s biggest streamers and people anticipate that his ban could only harm Twitch. People on Twitter begin to question Twitch’s racial stance following the ban of multiple black streamers like iShowspeed, Adin Ross and Jidion on their platform.
Kai Cenat had recently become Twitch’s most subscribed streamer after breaking the record held by Ludwig. The “Streamer of the Year” award winner was one of Twitch’s most influential streamers, with a massive following of 5 million before his ban. Although the reasons for his ban remain unknown, netizens have speculated that the ban could be due to the various stunts he likes to pull while live on stream. People speculated that his most recent stunt of riding a dirt bike in his room and crashing into his streaming setup could be one of the reasons for the ban. Some others reacted, saying that maybe unboxing and showcasing the sneakers gifted by Kick on stream was the reason.
Since Kai Cenat was one of many black creators who have been banned on Twitch, many viewers have deemed Twitch as racist. These claims point at the bans of creators like JiDion, iShowSpeed, and now Kai Cenat, who are all creators with African heritage.
Although the reasons for the ban on Twitch remain undisclosed, losing one of the biggest streamers on its platform could be a big blow on Twitch’s revenue and viewership. Especially now that Kick streaming platform has been trying to establish themselves in the industry by signing big streamers from various platforms. Kick has already shown interest in signing the content creator, Kai’s ban on Twitch could see the streamer potentially signing with Kick.
