Konami, a Japan-based video game company, produces some of the most popular video game titles. From the Metal Gear series to the classic Contra, Konami has developed loads of memorable games. Just recently, during the PlayStation Showcase 2023, Konami revealed its upcoming game. This new game would be a remake of the popular third installment in the Metal Gear Solid series. This upcoming game will be called Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater. However, heart-crushing news for fans, Hideo Kojima, the original mind behind the Metal Gear series, won’t be working on this upcoming game.
And the news gets worse further. Yoji Shinkawa, the main designer behind the Metal Gear series, would not participate in the development of MGSD. Although the trailer revealed on the PS Showcase showed some spectacular scenes and promise, this news has crushed the fan base. IGN recorded these answers when they asked the company some direct questions regarding the development of Metal Gear Solid Delta. However, there has been some good news for fans in the interview too.
The Metal Gear series has been one of the most successful AAA titles by Konami. Fans have always hoped for a remake of the classic game series. This is in regards to other game companies rebooting their older classic titles like Modern Warfare 2 & GTA Sandreas, etc. From the trailer, the game looks promising, with some exponentially improved next-gen graphics.
IGN’s interview with Konami
During the IGN interview with Konami, they asked the company some direct questions. The involvement of Hideo Kojima & Yoji Shinkawa with the upcoming reboot Metal Gear Solid Delta was a major concern. This had been a concern because both these amazing personalities of the video game industry had left Konami back in 2015. So fans needed to know whether these original creators would again work on something they created. And the answer to these questions was, unfortunately, no.
Apart from this, there has been some good news for the fans too. Konami has hinted that other reboots of the series have not been out of the picture. The other potential reboots would depend on the success of the upcoming MSGD game. This came as a delight to fans considering they would be able to relive the complete story of the Metal Gear series. Furthermore, Singapore studio Virtuos, a studio that has worked on Moder Warfare reboot, Horizon series & New World, along with other titles, would also be involved in the development.
Although the non-involvement of Hideo & Yoji has been a piece of bad news for fans, the other new developments make up for it. Furthermore, some fans had already expected the non-involvement of both of them since they no longer are a part of Konami. As to how the Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater would turn out in actuality after the reveal in the PlayStation Showcase will only be known with the release of the game. Until then, players should just wait and follow any news that pops up.
