Pokimane comments on the ItsSliker gambling controversy
The recent gambling drama caused by a Twitch streamer named ‘ItsSliker’ has led to some diversified reactions by other internet personalities such as Imane ‘Pokimane’ Anys who feels that the platform should ban gambling and it can only happen if the viewers join in to support the cause.
Gambling streams became a huge trend on Twitch even defeating popular games such as Fortnite and DOTA 2. Some renowned streamers such as Trainwreckstv and xQc made this a popular genre but now things have took an ugly turn.
Pokimane expresses her disapproval over Twitch supporting gambling
Given how vocal the ‘Queen of Twitch’ is, it was quite expected from her fans that Pokimane will have something to comment on the scam run by ‘ItsSliker’ who was exposed a couple of days ago by another streamer claiming that he used to ask for money from his subscribers to meet his gambling requirements.
As soon as this information came out, several viewers claimed that they were scammed of thousands of dollars from Sliker whereas some screenshots of the streamer asking for money from high-profile streamers such as xQc, Ludwig, Mizkif, and others also went viral.
The streamer himself confirmed that he indeed lost the money on gambling on CS: GO launch site as he thought that it was a fun place to gamble money and CS: GO skins. Various American internet personalities have called out Twitch to ban gambling such as Pokimane and Mizkif.
Imane ‘Pokimane’ Anys took to Twitter yesterday asking her followers to like her tweet if they want Twitch to ban gambling. Her tweet has received more than 218K likes at the time of writing this article. Fellow streamer HasanAbi replied to her post claiming-
"Twitch isn’t doing anything about it because gambling is too big an industry and generates revenue. it’s also capturing the pro sports scene aggressively as well."
Pokimane quickly replied that she is well aware of the fact that the platform will not ban anything when its free revenue for them but that is why, according to her, “public pressure is necessary”. She further reiterated the fact that she is completely against the platform for supporting such streams.
Gambling streams became an integral part of Twitch earlier this year with many streamers gaining fame due to their infamous gambling addiction. While Twitch is quite strict with its policies, it would be interesting to see whether they take any step on this matter.
