1. Witcher 3 vs Elden Ring Storyline

witcher 3

The biggest part of any RPG game is its storyline – the story must be engaging and should keep the player hooked to their peripherals and on the edge of their seats to know what’s next in the game. Both these games do an excellent job at it.

The Witcher 3 delivers a rigid storyline which follows a Monster Hunter, otherwise known as a Witcher in the game, named Geralt of Rivia. We play as Geralt who is in pursuit of the child of Prophecy, Ciri. On his journey pursuing the child of Prophecy, Geralt faces many perils in the forms of Monsters and other mystical creatures. Geralt isn’t the only character we get to play as in the game though, during the game, we also get to play as Ciri which brings a whole new perspective to the game and delivers a new point of view to the player experience which greatly increases the overall versatility of the game and makes it stand out in its category.

Elden Ring on the other hand has a more dynamic storyline where the choices you make have a direct impact on the story and changes the path you will be headed on as you progress in the game. This makes the narration in Elden Ring stand out from all the other RPG titles out there. Elden Ring also brings a lot of new terms on the table for players who might not be as experienced in the lore of Dark Souls and the other predecessors in the series of the game. This raises the learning curve and the players are left with a lot of questions in their mind, which isn’t always a good thing.

If fans were to compare both these storylines, it goes without a doubt that the game with the more engaging storyline was that of The Witcher 3 which led its players on a journey of wonder and long lasting impact. On the other hand, the freestyle storytelling of Elden Ring leaves the heart wanting for more.

Starting off with Elden Ring, we see a more explorative gameplay style with the player being free to do things as they wish and go around the world while also having to keep an eye on every little detail happening in the surroundings adding a certain level of challenge to the game. On the other hand, Witcher 3 has a much simpler design in terms of world views and interactive elements. Though there is a big world to explore, there isn’t as much to do as there is in Elden Ring.

In terms of combat, Elden Ring’s combat system is way more complex than that of Witcher 3, while also adding a lot of variety in terms of fighting classes and weaponry. Each combo is a different challenge while the unpredictable enemy attacks make the game’s combat learning curve a steep one. Witcher 3 on the other hand has simpler combat that is easy to pick up.

Talking about game time, Elden Ring gives us a total of 55 main quest hours and takes about 130 hours to explore the game entirely whereas Witcher 3 takes 52 hours for the main storyline and 170 for 100% completion.

Witcher 3 has always been praised for its vivid and colorful graphics and not only that, but also for how detailed every single thing is after the 2022 update. The attention to detail in the game is something that is truly remarkable and coupled with the perfect music, Witcher 3 is a treat that all fans of the RPG genre must try.

Elden Ring is a fairly GPU Heavy title and its graphics have always been a point of discussion for fans ever since the release of the game. However, with its amazing visual representations of the natural elements in the game, it makes up for its shortcomings and takes us one step ahead in the right direction.

If one was to be chosen however, it would be Witcher 3 not only for the points mentioned above, but also for the graphics being so ahead of their time when the game initially came out.

Both Witcher 3 and Elden Ring are amazing action-packed RPG titles which, even though fall under the same genre, could not be more different. Both these games appeal to a different player base and attracts new playstyles with new people coming into the genre every single day.

While Witcher 3 continues to be a cult classic for people starting out in the RPG genre, with its amazing graphics and easy to pick up gameplay, Elden Ring offers a more difficult yet positively challenging path to its players where they get to challenge themselves with new perils at every single turn of the game.
