Andrew Tate: Exploring the past of the viral internet personality
The American-British personality saw the dawn of his fame through his boxing and martial arts career. In 2009, he became the champion of International Sport Karate Association (ISKA) Full Contact Cruiserweight championship in Derby, England. His boxing career went on till 2014 when he was able to win a second title at ISKA and become the two-time champion in different weight divisions.
His career took a different turn in 2016 when he appeared in a show called Big Brother but within a span of six days he was removed from the show following his homophobic and racist comments on Twitter. Andrew Tate rose to prominence in 2022 when members from Hustler’s University, a website owned by Tate where viewers have to pay a subscription fee in order to hear about his opinions on getting rich and “male–female interactions”, started spreading out his videos in numerous social media platforms for publicity purposes.
While his popularity undoubtedly skyrocketed due to this ‘social media marketing’, he started receiving huge backlashes from different communities for his misogynistic and anti-feminist comments leading him to be banned on notable social media platforms.
Why are social media platforms like TikTok banning Andrew Tate?
Tate’s hateful comments on women on social media came at a price as he is now banned on social media giants like Facebook, Instagram, YouTube as well as TikTok. He was banned for similar reasons in all of the platforms as spokespersons from these platforms claimed that Andrew Tate’s account has been banned due to his violation of their ‘community guidelines’ and the ban imposed upon his account is permanent.
Following these bans, Tate himself deleted his Twitch channel named ‘TateSpeech’ as Twitch remains the only platform where the viral internet personality has not been banned yet.
