One of the most popular internet personalities who frequently interacts with business tycoon Elon Musk, Jimmy ‘MrBeast‘ Donaldson is a YouTuber who currently holds the record for having the highest number of subscribers on the platform as an individual channel.
He regularly creates content on the Google-owned platform but surprisingly, he isn’t completely happy with how YouTube performs as a streaming platform. The 24-year-old content creator revealed this during a podcast with Lex Fridman that took place on January 11th. The discussion started when the host asked about some steps he will take if he has to run YouTube for over a year.
MrBeast initially told that it’s hard to answer this as he might become biased, but he eventually began saying, “I feel like, when I open up YouTube on my television, I get the videos I want to watch. I don’t know. I don’t ever open it and wonder like, ‘What are these? “, he implied that the recommended section works quite well.
He later described, “One thing though that I hate with the passion is the comments section on YouTube“, while further claiming that it is quite bad to see how the system works, but he also agreed that improving it will not increase the growth of the platform tenfold.
MrBeast makes a comparison of YouTube with Reddit
YouTube has made Jimmy Donaldson what he is today, as his content spread like wildfire on the platform due to its uniqueness and method of presentation. However, he doesn’t shy away from bringing out the drawbacks as he recently made a comparison of it with Reddit.
He explained that when someone goes to read a comment on Reddit posts, the top 20 comments are not spam as when someone clicks on the comments, one can only see the upvotes rather than clickbait content. “Like Reddit, it’s just so nice to click on post and see what people have to say”, MrBeast claimed that he wishes to witness the same thing on YouTube.
Continuing further, the Kansas native opined that with YouTube, most of the time bots are commenting on some videos along with scammers trying to get some thousand dollars from the streamers. Lex Fridman then provided his take, saying that YouTube should invest on making the comment section better as people can show a lot of creativity there.
Fans react to the podcast
The podcast saw several reactions from YouTube users who commented how relaxing it was to see the two personalities coming together to have a productive discussion.
MrBeast broke the long-term record held by PewDiePie after crossing the number of subscribers on YouTube, he is now eyeing for the top spot as he wishes to defeat T-Series.
